Hmm...I don't know about the pushing through certain pains/injuries. Many dancers dance through injuries/pain, make their injuries worse and don't seek medical attention til it's too late. That mentality of pushing through pain/injuries is prominent in the Black community, due to us having to survive through traumatic situations. However, the disregard of the mental and physical well being of dancers and college students period, has had a devastating impact on the lives of young Black girls and women at these schools. Yes. You should have grit and perseverance, but your mental and physical health should ALWAYS be centered and take priority. That's something that those in leadership at these schools need to prioritize if they really want to elevate and do right by Black youth.

She was referring to small pains and things but I still agree with your point bc dancers are often taught to push through EVERYTHING. This mentality is why the dance industry is so toxic

I agree with your statement but she may have been touching on the smaller issues based on the examples she used.

To me it was very clear that she was not referring to injuries. She said “…start learning to push through things….something like cramps or oh I cut my toe or my leg”. But that’s just me 😀
