SMBZ Reanimated- Mario & Sonic vs Mecha Sonic

After several months of doing nothing but school works and some rest, I've decided to animate something.
I decided to reanimated something from Episode 7 of Super Mario Bros Z after taking part of the "SMBZ Reanimated" Collab. Anyways, regarding the animation, there were some mistakes here and there such as with the background when the camera "rotates" around the characters. I wasn't used to doing such things in sprite animation so it came in as some sort of challenge. So how does this compare to the original? Well, this is my own take on the scene so there are some major differences to the original. I am sure that I improved but also worsened some aspects when compared to the original I just know it. Regardless, it just shows how much Sprite Animation has changed over the years ever since the days of SMBZ.

1:40 to 1:45 is actually done super well. It’s not a time-stop; both contesters are just extremely faster. I LOVE the little detail of Mario still moving.

Anyways, I assume you are trying to say that there are other sprite animations that run much more smoother than this which is most certainly true. I am yet to master the flow of sprite animation.

I am also not the only sprite animator who has access to effects that make the these animations pop such as the light flares. On a side note, I've been trying to do pixel art so that I can make some custom poses for some characters.

I hope you won't take this personal or the wrong way but while I do like the fluid animation and it looks visually pleasing I think the original gave a much more violent impact and had more tension put to them but that's just my op I hope it won't stop you from making these incredible animations you are very talented :)

Just as I have said, I'm far from the skill level that Alvin is on. I will admit, this animation isn't as faithful as I wanted it to be such as the change in music. My animations are pretty tame compared to his however that won't stop me from improving. I would use that as a point of reference to assist me in figuring out my strengths and weaknesses in sprite animation.

Definitely something to keep in mind! Sometimes, less fluidity can help emphasize the blow of each kick, punch, and any kind of movement. Although, even with this fluidity, I think you can still work around a way to exaggerate the impact or even anticipation.

This is actually a REALLY good take on the original fight scene, and there are a couple of minor things that I prefer from the original, such as Mark's use of voice clips and audio mixing, the visual and flow of animation seems to be an overall step up. There is one MAJOR downgrade here that makes me vastly prefer the original over your version though, and that's the chosen background music. I know it seems like a very minor detail, but for me at least Fierce Battle from Metal Slug 5 made up a LOT of the hype, for lack of a battle word, the original battle carried, and with it's exclusion, and lack of a song with comparable energy to it, this remake just feels.... tame, in comparison, if that makes sense.

was always my favorite scene brings back a lot of nostalgia for sure with that old series. Pretty faithful remake. Other than the music from the old one that would get me hyped, the fluid animations are great.

Good job. Mecha sprite sheet raw is so small. But as a "day one", bob and George, fan of sprite anything....its fine. Hes a robot, and sure we seen Robotniks machines move smoothly, but Mecha limit movement is like the fear of a pro fighter. But every twitch, shift and change you did was wounderful.

In terms of animation, this is on par with the original (maybe even a bit better)! However, the sound design could’ve been better. I don’t mean the voices (they sound just fine), rather, the impact sounds, explosions, music choice, and other effects. I know you may have been limited in this aspect, but the way an animation sounds is a big factor in conveying emotions.

Not bad, some sound choices were strange, but I definitely like the touch of actually having Mario move very slightly during Sonic and Metal's light speed attack. Wish that little segment lasted just a bit longer.

If there's one thing that i loved about the original it was the music, other than that, this is refreshing! But i also preferred Mecha to grab Sonic and slam him into the wall rather than punching him.

I remember over a decade ago someone was making this on Newgrounds. We all kept waiting for the latest episode but it never came. The artist just disappeared. Later on the artist came back on KZbin. Everyone thought he was going to do a reboot. That's what the guy even said. Makes 1 episode and just disappears again.

Really smooth! Also i was wondering: do you animate it frame by frame (like adding each independent sprite every frame) or do you combine the sprite images into a symbol and then place them where they need to be?

Actually, it is a combination of both, those mostly into symbols. I sometimes switch between the movie clip versions (looping) and the graphic versions (for still shots of an action) of certain symbols then time each frame separately to transition from that to the next more fluidently. One such example would probably be how Sonic transitions from a skid or crouch to a jump. I did it as a way to save time as my laptop's battery life doesn't last long.

It’s fine, I suppose. Although the animation is more fluid, some of the more showy effects (primarily the lens flares) feel really out of place with the rest of the sprite animation. The background isn’t that distinguishable as a wall, you removed the sick looking rocket slam from 2:00 for some reason, the textboxes are weird, and the audio is just honestly worse. I do like the effect you applied to the slowdown shot of Sonic and Mecha Sonic, though.
