I freaking love you guys. Imagine what a master perfumer has to go thru to keep their noses on the level. Just like professional singers might not speak a word for days…how does one neutralize their olfactory senses before they go to work? Crazy. Cheers to you both from the states.

I used to think patchouli was my favourite ingredient in a scent, because it seemed all the scents I loved had it in, then I realised that loads of scents I didn’t like had patchouli in as well, however Oakmoss really is my favourite ingredient, bit of a coincidence I purchased an Oakmoss diffuser yesterday and it’s wafting across the room as I’m watching this. Happy Easter to you both.

This was incredibly informative and fun. I got more from this video than all of the top 10s I watched when I first started this journey a decade ago combined. I’m glad you guys are here doing something not everyone is doing and keeping this journey I’m on fresh and enjoyable. Cheers!

Smelling so many perfume materials and educating your nose will probably make it hard to enjoy all the modern creations that primarily rely on synthetic alternatives to naturals to save on cost. I can see why you would want to start making your own personal creations. It sounds like it could be quite rewarding and fun to dabble (apart from the high cost of experimenting to learn). Thanks for sharing your impressions with us.

There are very expensive and quality synthetic materials though

Yes and no. There is a popular trend for overdosing powerful materials, like ambrocenide, that I don't like. But, I'm in awe of fragrances like classic Guerlain that I know are mostly synthetic, but smell 'natural' and hugely complex. As @veronica-wi3tb says , there are also expensive synthetics. I love exaltone, which is more per gram than most floral absolutes!

@@WaftsfromTheLoft That's very interesting. Chemicals that can trick our noses must be the most expensive. That makes sense. I do enjoy Guerlain fragrances and they are doing synthetics right if they are mostly synthetic now.

Great education chaps I got Moss Breches TF couple of years ago, didn't really delve into the note but have since got Devils Nightcap by Lush which is a Moss monster you'd love, just starting to get into the note. Thanks for breaking down constituent parts of Rose and others really interesting

Love hearing your impressions of raw materials. I haven't tried some of those flower absolutes because of the cost but hydrocarboresine is one of my favorite materials. Smells like an old church or something. Check out Bois d'Encense. It's a natural made from codistillaton of cedar and olibanum. It smells closer to what you might have expected from the frankincense to smell like.

Yes, LOVE Bois d’encens. It’s probably my most used material. Also love Bois des landes.

Not the biggest fan of Evernyl. Nothing beats oakmoss absolute. Part of me suspects that some of the topical reactions people have to the allergen in the material may actually be the result of an undiagnosed viral infection playing with their subcutaneous circulation or nerves. Or maybe I'm just grasping at straws because I'm so disappointed it's been substituted. 😆 But I'm certainly not entirely convinced that immune responses would be so haphazard if everyone had a pristine diet, lifestyle and body. Still need to try Ambrein though. Appreciate this gents!

Was just watching your video on Jorum today. Lovely to see another video out just now! - I also like that Farm series with Jeremy Clarkson. Sadly already watched all the episodes already. Might need to get myself some oakmoss as well. I am little reluctant to go done that rabbit hole... :D

I think of oakmoss in G major. Oddly enough, Diorella had no oakmoss, just Veramoss, but is one of the greatest chypres ever made. You'd probably be surprised at the number of designer fragrances which do contain absolutes. I wish they would just use recreations, then the price wouldn't be so high.
