A clean crucible with some more borax and another pour into a cone mold. That would yield a very shiny silvery button.

Galena huh??? Wow! How do you crush it to powder? Can it be bought like this? I am very interested in smelting out some silver!

My custom made ball mill pulverizes the ore to a very fine powder, classification is required. There may be some places available that sells Galena, I've never really looked into it. My personal ore is a heavy sulfite ore. That Galena used during that video was my great-grandfather's that I had found while cleaning out my grandparents home after they're passing. So I had to do it justice and make some silver with it.

That is an older VEVOR propane smelter originally purchased off of the internet a few years back. That little smelter has been through the ringer and keeps on working.

Basically, there are a few other steps in between. The silver does have impurities remaining. Not enough to affect what I used it for in an up and coming video. The very last scene I did forget to mention I added carbon to the Dutch oven during that last roast before melting the smelted buttons prior to remelting and pouring into the cone molds.

I don't have the proper equipment or work area for such chemical extraction and refining processes. Nor do I have the ability or affordability to safely dispose of the waste once completed. I know it is much more of an effective process but I'm old school.

Ok so how many grams of cons and how many grams of flux? What is the flux recipe your using? I use Chapman's and action mining sulfide flux plus I make my own.

@@dawnac6453The total weight of the concentrates was 1,048 grams. I used Chapman Flux, one to one ratio. For every tablespoon of concentrates I mixed in one tablespoon of Chapman flux. I also added three tablespoons of Borax as a thinner.

@@smokeyandspikeproductions good morning and thanks for the reply. I actually make my own thinner from lime and feldspar at a 50/50 ratio. Works well. I own a bunch of gold and silver mines here in AZ (some patented and some just unpatented claims. The mine I'm working now and have been for awhile is 400+ feet underground and is just loaded with silver bearing galena and I'm going into the process of processing that. I probably have around 30 sandbags of galena ore I'm getting ready to process along with a few sacks of gold bearing ore. I assayed this particular mine at around 2+ ozt au and around 20+ ozt ag and by the looks of it so far that looks about right.

It is a lead sulfite ore with silver. This particular ore processed during the video contained all three elements lead, zinc and silver.

Galena is a lead zinc sulfide ore with contents of silver. This process is to oxidize out the lead followed up with burning out the zinc. Then re-smelting to burn out other contaminants leaving behind silver with other elements included. Next steps from there is a cupel process or acid solution for further refining.
