Just one of many disappointments; -Tessai never gets a decent fight even though he was Capt Commander equiv of the Kido Corps. - Jinta/Ururu are never explained (are they like Nemu or like zanpakuto(s) like those of Nimaiya in his palace? - At least Yuruichi's shikai or finally admitting that cat form is her shikai and that naked electric cat woman is her bankai. - Ichigo literally never learns a single extra move besides Getsuga until like the last few chapters...He was never able to use kido at all. - the 5th unnamed noble family. Or even just the fate of Byakuya's granddad. (apparently he's not dead?) - Acknowledging even at story end Ichigo is STILL not technically a shinigami as his lineage is way to complex. Also his 'reforged zanpakuto' is not really that either, it a transcendent weapon. - How Urahara ever was permitted to the Royal realm, allowing him to study Kirinji's springs (and likely Nimaiya's creation of zanpakuto(s) ). - Many others.

So, I already know I'm going to get a TON of hate here, but Chojiro Sasakibe and his Bankai, Koko Gonryo Rikyo, were one of the weakest Shinigami's and Bankai releases in the entirety of Soul Society. Furthermore, it was one of the biggest letdowns visually. Why? Because he was a casualty of a plot weapon by the series creator himself. Now, before you bite my head off, let me explain: 1) First and foremost -- Chojiro's Sasakibe was the 1st Division's Luitentant and Second-in-Command to Captain Commander Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto. He was the prime Luitenant (Luitenant in charge of all other Gotei 13 Luitenants) and a person which all 13 Captains of the Gotei 13 recognized and thought of as an Honorary Captain, like Ichigo Kurosaki. Additionally, Chojiro has been with the Zero Division for an extensive period of time. There's NO WAY Chijiro Sasakibe should have been as incredibly weak as he was portrayed in the anime. This is only compounded by the fact that his Zanpakutou was considered the "strongest" Lightning/Electric Zanpakutou which supposedly had an existence similar to the Fire-aspected Ryujin Jakka, and the Ice-aspected Hyorinmaru. Like both of these Zanpakutou, Gonryōmaru had the ability to control the reishi around it and affect the weather in a radius around itself or its master/Shinigami. However, to a significantly lesser degree than both of them. 2) Second -- Chojiro's Sasakibe and his Zanpakutou's elemental attribute is Lightning/Electricity. While Lightning/Electricity isn't technically one of the four Prime Elements, its power is absolutely the strongest of all Secondary Elements. Lightning/Electricity's special attribute is Paralysis. It is the fastest of all the elements. At higher/deadlier levels, it can instantly disintegrate the cells of an organism and cause a chain reaction to the cells around it, quickly leaving nothing but ash particles floating in the wind. It's similar to fire, which it's special attribute is Burning. At higher/deadlier levels, it can incinerate flesh and bone, quickly leaving nothing but ash. 3) Third -- There is SOOOOOOOO much more Tite Kubo * could * have done with it. In all honesty, Chojiro Sasakibe's Zanpakutou could and should have rivaled Genryusai Yamamoto's Zanpakuto, Ryujin Jakka, and Toshiro Hitsugaya's Zanpakutou, Hyorinmaru, simply in terms of elemental control/manipulation and overwhelming elemental power. By Chojiro Sasakibe releasing his Bankai, the entirety of Seireitei should have immediately been enveloped by a massive thunderstorm. Everyone in the vicinity around Chojiro should have immediately become statically charged and begun having trouble getting their body's nervous system to function and move properly. Like Ryujin Jakka (burns/burning) and Hyorinmaru (frozen/freezing), Gonryōmaru should have had the chance to cause paralysis/paralyzing by being in close quarters and fighting against him. However, a passive ability of his Bankai should have been to call down lightning and electrocute enemies. 4) Fourth -- I get the design Tite Kubo was going for. Lightning strikes are technically fast and precise. They're essentially "piercing" attacks, so why not have Chojiro Sasakibe's Zanpakuto be a Rapier. The issue is that while Rapiers are light and agile, they are one-trick ponies that are one of the weakest blades known to man. So in true fashion, Chojiro Sasakibe's true "stronger" attack while in his Bankai state was to collect the lightning from his Bankai's release and channel them into his Zanpakutou for a one-shot quick forward piercing attack. As you can imagine, there are significant drawbacks to this. If you recall watching Naruto and the fight between Sasuke Uchiha and Gara back during the Chunin Exams when Sasuke used Chidori in battle for the first time -- a melee piercing attack requires incredible speed and reflexes to even be remotely effective. If your one-shot attack misses or doesn't finish the job, you're essentially screwed and you'll end up losing. 5) Fifth -- Chojiro's Bankai had a major unforgivable flaw. Its release was incredibly slow, drawn out, and choreographed with Sasakibe raising his Rapier above his head into the air. During this time, Sasakibe was essentially defenseless. This left a massive opening for anyone to take advantage of to attack, to steal his Bankai, and to kill him (which is actually what happened in the TYBW). #bleachanime #bleach #chojirosasakibe #gonryomaru #zanpakutou #shinigami

You are wrong. I'll avoid getting into the TYBW arc because the Sternritter have all sorts of abilities, but even still... Kubo demonstrated water with Kaien Shiba's zanpakuto, Nejibana, as well as espada #3 Halibel's latent abilities with water. He demonstrated the element of wind with Kensei Muguruma's zanpakuto Tachikaze. He demonstrated electricity mostly through the use of Yoruichi and Soi Fon's Shunko, but as we are aware, Sasakibe's zanpakuto Gonryomaru. The element of Earth is definitely a weak showing throughout the series but I think that is mostly because Earth itself is used consistently as a litmus of strength. Giant buildings being cut down by Gin, whole mountains cleaved down by Dangai-trained Ichigo, even huge gashes carved out of the earth by Urahara and Ichigo clashing zanpakutos. It's hard to imagine any amount of "earth" that could rival anything a shinigami could do because - well - they casually destroy Earth wherever they go. Maybe it could be taken into a less literal sense - Gaara does something similar with his sand in Naruto where-as he infuses chakra into the sand to increase the speed and density. This could easily be explained with reishi, reiatsu, and reiryoku. Regardless, Earth is by and large the weakest and loneliest element in Bleach. The weakest showing here is Nejibana for obvious reasons. Kensei is very powerful and just foddered by Kubo. Halibel is also quite powerful in her own right, only brought low by the inevitable power creep by the main characters. Yoruichi in particular is extremely powerful and we see her shunko numerous times throughout the series. Though she is totally ineffective against Aizen, she's more than a match for everyone else she comes up against until the TYBW arc. Gonryomaru is, without a doubt, the most powerful zanpakuto we never get to see. To lose Sasakibe right at the beginning of the arc felt like robbery, and to see his bankai for the first time without it ever being under his control is frustrating. In each instance that we see Sasakibe's abilities, they are without Sasakibe. Wtf Kubo?

If lightning is the theme of his Bankai, wouldn't that inherently make him the fastest as well? To land a slash that would scar Yamamoto means to have struck at a speed faster than he can deflect. We know Gin's Bankai is fast, but this is even faster. It would also mean heat generated in an instance from the lightning is scorching hot and if constant would create an unnatural environment where the heated air plays a role in the fight just like Yamamoto but less lethal.

TLDR version: his bankai creates a static field of pure spiritual pressure around him then renders all spiritual attacks null. He saps his opponents spiritual pressure through that connection as well. Any ranged attacks launched at him would destabilize and break down once it enters his area of influence forcing you to fight him on a strictly physical format which puts you at a extreme disadvantage seeing as he has all his abilities/ instantaneous offense and defense

When I seen this video posted I got super excited because I finally get to express what I think happened to other people who actually like the head lieutenant. I think that Chojiro Sasakibe was against Rukia’s execution. But being the right hand of Yama-ji He’s not allowed to raise his sword against him. So once he read the reports of each Ichigo Defeating most of the 11th division including third seat Ikkaku and Captain Kenpachi. Along with Lieutenant Renji He probably became confident that this invader Might actually be able to save her if certain circumstances happen. So after verifying with his own eyes by watching him bare hand great Lieutenant Omaeda’s shikai He put his faith in Ichigo. Much like or a Urahara with Hiyori he let himself get knocked out because if he truly fault there was no victory for Ichigo. Ichigo One punch knocking him out is just as bad to me as him doing that to Ichibei, Kyoraku, Unohana, or Ukitake. I don’t think beginning of the story Ichigo could do that unless one of them let him. So in conclusion to me lieutenant Chojiro Sasakibe is the biggest unsung hero in the story in my eyes.

My theory on sasakibes bankai is that it’s a anti spiritual bankai. Because the lightning is essentially pure spiritual pressure it rips away all opponents spiritual pressure. If someone activates shikai/bankai it rips away the spiritual pressure necessary to activate it rendering it null. The electrical storms in his immediate vicinity charge the atmosphere around him with a static/ spiritual charge allowing for not only immediate offense/ defense but also sapping away a opponents spiritual pressure in large. Any spiritual attacks launched at him from a distance will destabilize and break down once it enters his bankai field rendering them useless forcing you to fight him on a strictly one on one basis, which puts you at a extreme disadvantage seeing as he still has access to his entire arsenal of abilities

It might be a bit of a stretch considering it is just a lightning based zan but imo lightning is essentially pure spiritual pressure, so by creating a ambient field it’d work on a similar principle as Muramasa were it forcibly synchronizes the opponent to it. Just it only synchronizes to the face value spiritual pressure an opponent has and rends it away. He probably used that on Yamamoto as a be all end all strike thinking a face shot would end the fight before things got too heated but because yamas spiritual pressure takes the form of concentrated flame it worked against him creating a epicenter explosion on sasakibe.

I wouldn't say low Captain level, He was (supposed to be) a Captain level Shinigami, according the TYBW. He just chose to remain as Yamamoto's Vice-Captain. I don't think Kubo planned much with him when he was introduced. He did get one-shot by Ichigo, after all. When Kubo tried to make him important in some way, we all thought back to that moment when he got taken down by Ichigo.

Unfortunately, he was a victim of retconing. When I learned all of this about Sasakibe, the first thought I got was about him getting one-shot by Ichigo. He wasn't planned to be this way, I suspect. Unfortunately, this happens in some long going stories, to varying extents. I personally think that in the case of Sasakibe, it was a big one, because we all thought back to that one-hit KO.

its a shame, bleach have so much potential but Kubo wasted it and end it hastily, how could Sasakibe who should be at the captain level be defeated easily by Ichigo and killed by a lowly character, and he's not the only wasted character. Yamamoto, Unohana, Ichimaru, Ukitake, Shinji and another vizards, 0 Division, Neliel, isshin kurosaki (i really wanna see he fight seriously and see his bankai, or at least see he interact with other shinigami specially hitsugaya and matsumoto). This list can be very long, even character like tessai also wasted for nothing (if look back at his past he should be at the captain level) i hope they can fix it in anime with their fillers..

I honestly think Kubo just didn't flush/plan anything out for him until the end of the story. But due to being the head captain's LT I always assumed he was at captain level strength. Ichigo had a massive power increase at the time (well for that point of the story anyway), and he was able to best the likes of both Kenpachi and Zaraki. Him 1-punching the LTs didn't really affect my perception of them, I always thought Isane was strong, but being in squad 4, that her strength was in medicine. Omeda was always sort of lame, so it wasn't hard to write him off at any point in the story. He always just seemed to barely do just enough and nothing more. Sasakibe was always an enigma though, he was visually different from all other LTs and constantly at Yamamoto's side. Being that Yamamoto didn't often find himself in the fight, I had always assumed that when they weren't pictured together, and Yamamoto was elsewhere that Sasakibe was in charge of running things at the home base while Yamamoto was out. His position in Squad 1 put him in a position of great importance, sometimes greater than the other 12 captains. That's just my take, anyway.
