Lyrics: I might be at a table and suddenly I'll catch A fleeting vision of her crystal seas Or I might be standing in a crowded dockyard far away Underneath the sun I've never seen 'Cause I have seen many worlds for what it's worth But I'll never see again the planet Earth, my Earth I might be chasing waves of light out towards the rim Where stars are sparse and the cold of space seeps in But I might be in a bar room drinking methylated gin And thinking of the places I have been Yes, I have seen many worlds for what it's worth But I'll never see again the planet Earth, my Earth I have seen many worlds for what it's worth But I'll never see again the planet Earth, my Earth Cast adrift amongst the stars, I float from sun to sun Dreaming of the world that gave me birth All the places I have been remind me there is none To match the cool green rolling hills of Earth 'Cause I have seen many worlds for what it's worth But I'll never see again the planet Earth, my Earth

Just heard Brian May talking about this track on the Rick Beato channel. Turns out there's a key moment at 2:22 when the guitar has to suddenly disappear and make way for the vocals. Apparently they only had four tracks.
@emdiar65883 жыл бұрын
I came here for the same reason (even though I've had the Smile album on vinyl since 1985). They did indeed only have 4 tracks, and all but one of the songs on the LP are in mono, but what an album!!! It features the original version of Doing Alright, which is on Queen 1, and a proto version of the Brighton Rock guitar solo. A 'must hear' for any Queen fan.

Smile were treated unfairly. Mercury Records released Earth/Step On Me in the USA, saying if it charted there, they would release it in the UK too. It made no impact, so that was that.

Well that's certainly an interesting idea - and probably vocally easier on Brian and Roger at this stage - and a truer reward for the more devoted fan.

It was recorded at the same studios either the day before or the day after Bowie did 'Space Oddity'. They literally walked past each other when entering/leaving the recording room. Because of the whole space race thing, it wasn't uncommon for quite a few musicians to be thinking of that at the time and incorporate it into their creations.
