WarioWare D.I.Y. Showcase: Colours and Sprites Restoration Mod

Dolphin's custom texture feature allows for texture replacement, and apparently WarioWare D.I.Y. sprites are turned into textures when transferred to its WiiWare counterpart, so... thought I might as well give it a shot

Keep in mind Nintendo was working with the limitations of having these be transferable to WarioWare: D.I.Y, so they kinda had to cut corners to get the game out without sacrificing DS compatibility.

The limited color palette of DIY makes a lot of the Nintendo microgames look like bootlegs (which I suppose fits the nature of WarioWare). Also I'm curious if you'll do this type of video with the DS microgames (I'm especially curious how you'll handle stuff like Zelda Phantom Hourglass or Pikmin).

or rather couldnt the minigames are based on the warioware diy colour palatte, which was very limited, so they had to get creative with how they drew their sprites

A PC port would be so cool, I like to imagine there would be a Classic and Advanced mode for making games and other stuff. Classic would be like the original, also allowing you to export them as .mio files and even play them on a real copy if you want, and Advanced would have more AI slots, any color, unlimited space for cels and more sprites. The stuff I listed is only for games though.

yeah i didn't realise it but the idle sprite of wario has a different texture between the japanese and american versions of the game, thus giving it a different dumped texture name (japanese version has a light blue background behind it, american version got rid of it, and i didn't notice) - it's fixed in the download though (all of the still screenshots minus punch out and kid icarus were taken in the japanese version of the game, because it's the one i'm currently making microgames in)

I am curious how you got your own microgames imported into Dolphin given as far as I'm aware there's no feature for Dolphin to connect to a DS emulator yet. Did you port save data from an actual Wii or is there a save editor for DIY and Showcase?

that might be a bit difficult considering the DS microgame selection includes games that aren't sprite-based, like pikmin and the games based on wii play and wii fit it's a future possibility

Are you able to go replace textures with those of a higher resolution?

you probably can if you expand the dimensions, but the game will scale your texture down to its intended size, so it'd probably only look clean if you make the dimensions a multiple of whatever the original dimensions were (so 64x64 would only look good with a 128x128, 256x256, etc. resolution) since most of the games here were meant to have a specific sprite resolution anyway, it wasn't necessary for me to make them higher res, otherwise they wouldn't have looked like the games they're representing
