Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Smilla started her martial arts journey at the young age of 5 with karate. But it wasn't until a family vacation to Thailand that her true passion ignited. Discovering the power and beauty of Muay Thai, Smilla quickly fell in love with the "Art of Eight Limbs."
Embracing her new home in Thailand, Smilla immersed herself in Muay Thai training. Starting with casual sessions with her sister, she unexpectedly found herself in her first fight, sparking a fire within. From that moment on, Smilla dedicated herself to mastering this art form.
Her dedication and talent shone through, leading her to the top ranks of WBC women's featherweight Muay Thai. At the remarkable age of 16, Smilla had already earned the respect and recognition of the Muay Thai world.
This young prodigy soon caught the attention of ONE Championship, the world's largest martial arts organization. Joining ONE in 2022, Smilla made an immediate impact. In her debut, she delivered a stunning third-round knockout of Diandra Martin.
Two months later, the world witnessed the birth of a legend. Facing Jackie Buntan at ONE 156, Smilla showcased her incredible skill and determination to win the ONE Women's Strawweight Muay Thai World Championship. This victory made her the youngest World Champion in ONE's Muay Thai history, etching her name in the sport's record book.
Smilla Sundell is not just a fighter; she is an inspiration. Her story is a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and the pursuit of passion.
