This is a prime example of the NHL becoming stuck in two eras. The old blood and the new. Old blood who's accustomed to hitting and protecting themselves from hits. Then the young bloods who grew up watching the "new" NHL with a faster morr skillfull pace. Young guys don't expect to be hit nor do they brace themselves as much anymore. They think they can freely roam without being touched like they can in juniors. NHL has a problem on their hands, and its becoming evident the last couple seasons.

The hawks offensive zone entrances consist of bedard skating in the middle of 4 people and making a play almost every single time. And this is the first big open ice hit he’s taken. Hundreds of the same situations have happened this year and the one time he reaches for the puck you come at him for not keeping his head up? He has a target on his back. If he didn’t skate with his head up every other time he’d definitely pay for it.

This is what I don’t understand; people complaining that the league is going soft yet there were multiple fights in this game? No matter what sport it is, if the top player gets drilled (clean or dirty) there’s going to be some type of retaliation. Players fighting after a clean hit on their star player does not indicate that the league is soft - it’s a statement move. The league will have gone soft if there is no retaliation or fighting after any massive hit. Good clean hit and a handful of scruffs throughout the game, I do not understand the complaining.
