I bought a Taurus model 66 7shot 357 & a 856UL 38spl that my wife stole from me. I bought them Both early 2020 right before the sweat and sour sickness hit. Both guns have been better than I expected with at least 100+ rounds shot through both and now I want a model 44 to Mach my 357. At some point Taurus and S&W had the same parent company, that’s probably why there so similar and you get 85-90% S&W for half the money. Really enjoyed the not BS comparison.

The lighting on your video could be better it is a little dark. Also, the light from the window does not help. Its better to have the camera lens pointed with its back against the light and not towards it. Please forgive me if I offened you it is not my intent. I've owned both and held onto the Taurus. Both had VG triggers with the S&W being slightly lighter. But the Taurus was just more comfortable to shoot. So it won and got held onto. The S&W had more polish to it. But as they say "Chrome don't get you home". I am all about the function and ergonomics myself.

Very sorry to see your S&W was missing an essential part. Strange indeed. I have the same model (629 Classic), and mine was not missing that detent. Also, I cannot detect any trigger creep in SA mode. When I brought my 629 home from the store, it was devoid of lubrication. Very dry. The cylinder release was almost sticking, and the SA trigger felt like a 6 pound pull. I lubed everything up, dry-fired a bit (with the red plastic ring inserted), and the whole gun feels like a new target pistol now. Going to your next video!

Yeah, I don't understand what exactly happened with both of my Smiths. I was hoping that they were both perfect right out of the box. It certainly wasn't my first Smith purchase. I can say if it was my first purchase, I might be completely turned off from the company for good. Thankfully though I have a few Smiths and I'll be buying another one someday.

Seems to be the norm nowadays with the lack of QC. I have over a dozen Smiths and everyone of them is a prelock ranging from 1969 to 1991. So far no issues with any of them. Definitely a little more attention to detail back then. Today its all about mass production and getting them out the door ASAP. The thing is on your Smith if there was a final inspection on it and a check list that would not have slipped through the cracks. In the long run its costing S&W more money paying for shipping both ways and extra cost of warranty work. What the hell happened to " do it right the first time " ?

Not since my old 27-2, have I been that impressed with a S&W trigger. I don't care what you get, but I got my M44 Taurus cheaper than I feel comfortable bragging about and, for that reason ALONE, there is no reason for me to shop for a S&W.

Hello sir, great video! I just bought new taurus raging bull in .44 and it has exact amount of play like your taurus M44 in this video. Except when i cock the hammer, decock it and holding a hammer all the way back. Then it has better lockup. Do you think this is ok as far as accuracy goes? Or should i send it back?

Ok, by most objective measures the S&W is the nicer gun. But is it 400 to 500 dollars nicer? In my humble opinion, no. Taurus quality has improved a lot in the last ten to fifteen years. S&W otoh turns out guns at high dollar price points that really don't undergo any QC checks before they leave the factory. For what you have to pay for a new S&W revolver, there should be an inspector to check for every conceivable problem there could be with the gun before it leaves the factory...timing and positive lockup on ALL charge holes...absolute minimum b/c gap, etc. I wouldn't mind paying extra if I had the assurance that I wouldn't have to send it back for something that never should have been allowed to leave the factory to begin with.

It's just the name you are buying; because Taurus is way way way cheaper and the quality is the same, perhaps now a days Taurus is better than S&W.
