I just got one of these in 40 it's really growing on me. I put the upgrades it where it counts. The only thing that took getting used to was the long reset but I've adapted. Apex trigger & trigger spring kit, Truglo fiber optic sights, stanless steel guide rod with a 20lb spring, extended takedown lever, traction grip overlays. I owned a Glock 23 at one point years ago but never did adapt to the grip angle that's why I got the Smith. If Glock offered a more traditional grip angle that's what I would own. Good straightforward review.

Honestly I carry this pistol everywhere I just prefer it over my others pistols it fits well in my hand and I'm incredibly accurate with it, I also modified my trigger with apex, steel guide rod, I put 3 dot true glow sights on slide the back sights are red front sight is green with punisher picture plate on back of slide just waiting for them to make a threaded barrel this 40, like they did with SD9VE and I'll make a video on my SD40VE tactical lol but yeah definitely a good buy thanks foe watching brother.

Man I love it! Carried a .38 special for years until my daughter saw this on sale at Academy for $279.99! I'm a larger man with large hands so the size of the SD40 VE and grip angle are absolutely perfect, especially for recoil control with it being a .40 caliber pumping 180 grain freedom seeds down range!

This was the second pistol I ever owned unfortunately I sold it to finance another gun purchase but I really regret selling. It felt very ergonomic, very well made (it is a Smith and Wesson after all) accurate, and reliable. It's slide serations made it probably the easiest gun I have ever racked. It did not like Tulammo Brass Maxx .40 cal ammo otherwise it fed and shot everything else. Would definitely trust my life to one.

Eclipse Entertainment Presents I would ditch the stainless steel guide rod. I ditched mine. It’s beating up the gun. The slide and the frame. If you email Smith and Wesson They will send you a free plastic guide rod assembly. And then I bought a couple more they’re only 10 bucks apiece. But plastic rods are good for about 1000 rounds. I just keep a fresh one in when I carry it and I put the old one in when I go to the range. Plastics are honestly better they can flex and They don’t need any lubrication. A tech at Smith and Wesson told me the stainless steel rods, if they are not built to perfect specifications are breaking the frames. And Smith and Wesson is going to start identifying this and denying warranty claims. I have found evidence that this is true stainless rods are breaking frames because of their inability to flex and springs that are too long installed on them. If you see the two little ears in the frame where the guide rod hits, In front of the takedown lever is where it breaks

I am of the same mind as Joe S. I love the SDVE40 it's probably my favorite firearm. Great shooter and even better priced. And I also plan to add the H&K 40. Although I have replaced the plastic guide rod for stainless steel. Nothing but success with it. The plastic gave me issues with cycling after 3 shot drills. As with any tool, periodically check, repair and replace when needed. Enjoy your SDVE40 I certainly do

I’m a revolver guy at heart, but I bought the 9mm version of this gun, and absolutely fell in love. I call it the poor man’s glock, but in all seriousness, I like the look and feel better than any glock I’ve shot. Put and apex striker spring kit in it and it let about 2-3lbs off the trigger pull, making it, in my opinion, heavy enough to feel safe, but light enough to shoot consistently. Definitely my favorite semi by S&W!

That's exactly what I did to my SD I upgraded to an apex trigger fixed up sights and yes the feel of the gun molds perfectly with my hand. I have Glocks, Springfield's, and I still CC this gun the most I'm just waiting on the threaded barrel to come out for the SD40 so I can make this bad boy a tactical pistol luckily you have the 9 version they already have the threaded barrel for but all that being said thanks for watching brother.

As soon as I changed my polymer guide rod to 2 diffent metal it misfired every 1 or 2 clips. I never had a misfire with a polymer guide rod. TheSD40 needs flexibility in that area. Just chang the polymer to oem every few thousand rounds. All it needs is the 4lb trigger and it'll never missfire.

Just honestly do yourself a favor when it comes to choosing the caliber of 9mm vs .40 cal! Recoil management is a huge factor! I say this because when I bought my .40 and went to the range with my friend whom had the 9mm version he had recently picked up, we both almost immediately agreed the 9mm was better! I'm saying this because now after 1000-1100 rounds later I've got the follow up shots finally on target just like the first day shooting the 9mm! The .40 is considerably more powerful so if not held properly when shooting it can often fail to cycle or FTE by weak wristing or flinching when firing causing the slide to not go all the way back causing an ammo feed ramp fail as I call it. Got it dead on now after really dialing in the sights for windage! 3 shot groups one inch at 7 yards 2.6 sec! If I'd of had the 9mm I could have shot nearly twice as many rounds as I did in .40 just to get as good and fast as I am with the 9mm! I let my ego get me on the larger lead chunker! Just food for thought!
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it will fail to cycle I mean my 10 and 13 year old has fired it with no issues on the forty, as far as the 9 I would agree it is a better choice for that very reason it is a lot better when it comes to recoil and getting back on to target I keep saying I need to get one I'm probably going to have to get that done and do a comparison video on it 9 vs 40 SD thanks for the input fam.

I shoot this and my buddy’s glock 23 sided by sided the other day. The S&D has more kick then the glock. I feel like if you get buy a nice grip it’s be really nice addition. This gun is kinda lightweight and feels really thin over a glock. Over all I really like it, so far I’ve shot about 500 rounds no problems at all (:
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah its definitely a great gun and it does have more kick than the Glock because the glock has that dual guide rod spring kit and the SD40VE has single guide rod it makes a world of difference when firing but all in all its a good reliable gun to have it can take a beating.

Great review. Did you change spring weight and do you recommend a certain grain weight?
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents 2 жыл бұрын
I kept the spring to the same specifications as the plastic one that came with the sd40ve. I've made a field stripping video on this pistol ,were a lot of my subscribers have said that ''Smith and Wesson, would not fix gun under warranty if after market spring was the cause of the malfunction.'' So that's why I kept the spring at the same specifications as plastic because I don't want any issues with my pistol.
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents
@EclipseEntertainmentPresents 2 жыл бұрын
Now I use 180 grain rounds. I use it for the punching power and velocity, now honestly that's just a preference the question is what grain is best for your accuracy, 180 grain has a bit more recoil so in other words if you need to go lower for less recoil accuracy is most important in my opinion so hit the range and see what grain is best for you.

I agree with you about this gun. I love mine. Never a single issue with it. Ever. The only thing I'd say is the trigger is terrible, but that's an easy $20 fix with a new trigger spring kit. Also, I considered the steel guide rod, but decided against it, since S&W recommends the plastic one. They say it's designed to flex a little, supposedly reducing the possibility of F2F issues. This model has a Laser and 100 Lumen light and it not too bulky and very light I highly recommend them and Fobus makes a holster RBT17 that works with this sidearm with a light installed. I would recommend having 2 pistols one to install in a CAA MCK and one on your hip and have a "Perfect Pair" I have a few perfect pairs (sidearm and carbine/rifle in the same caliber and even better if they use the same magazine also!) This is the most enthusiastic review I've seen so far and straight to the point. Thank you for that. In the end, that was a great point you made in terms of cost compared to the 'other'. To say I despise the Glock company would be an understatement. Can't even bring myself to say it verbally so when it's in conversation it's spelled out. With that said, I do sh!t on it because we like to save people money for equal value, but I'll take it a step further and do what you did by showing what people can buy rather than blow 2½x the money for one firearm. Ammo, more mags, holsters, and other accessories (+ plenty left for lunch) is a lot better option than just one overpriced brick.

Overpriced brick? Bro S&W modeled this gun off the G19 so are you saying it's an underpriced brick? I would call a hipoint a brick but a Glock? With Glock you pay the extra money for the name but also what comes with the name the accessories/upgrades are very very vast for the Glock line up. That's why people pay the extra money. I got a Glock43x and I'm waiting on my SD40VE. I'm not a Glock fanboy at all but it sounds like you just hate Glock because of the name. Your acting like Glocks are shity pistols and not just overpriced pistols. I have one Glock I don't think I'll ever get another unless I have money to burn for something.

@@EclipseEntertainmentPresents it's been proven. Smith and wesson said that it will not cover any damages to the guns that replaced the plastic guide rods for the steel.

@@EclipseEntertainmentPresents Hope you still have the original guide rod. Install the original guide rod, pull and hold the slide all the way back against the slide stop and hold. (Next may require an assistant) While holding the slide all the way back against the stop, make a vertical mark using a paint pen from the slide to the frame. Then remove the original guide rod and install the Stainless Steel one. Pull the slide all the way back and see if your marks line up. If the the mark on the slide is forward of the mark on the frame then the base of the guide rod is catching all the energy from the slide during cycling. This will break the plastic guide tabs for the take down lever. S&W will not warranty this repair as the frame is broken and requires replacement. I've owned a SD40VE for about 2 yrs and have been heavily researching mods for it.

Aye thanks for that, yeah I didn't know that, but that's why I stopped using the plastic guide rod, it looked as if the base was taking a lot of energy, warped, and dents on the base of guide rod, and parts of the top of guide rod spring portion were fragmenting. But I'm definitely going to try marking the barrel, and yes I still have the plastic guide rod they both are the same lbs. This may make, an interesting video I may be doing one on what you just told me thanks for the input brother. God bless.
