BTW, "using the verge" is not without penalty. Many years ago, a RR owning friend of mine was boasting how he could just use the verge when someone came the otherway on a single width road. Not long after, doing just that, he found out the hard way that Farmers like to leave large bits of knackered agricultural equipment in such places, when a old rusty harrow hidden in the long grass took the front left wheel clean off his car.........
