Did you just use your stock crossbars or did you upgrade? And any issues with your vehicle holding the weight?

I have the Land Rover LR3 Expedition Rack that I removed the top half from. No issues with weight but I discovered that the rack has a slight bend to it to match the roof. I am now looking for a way to add some height to the front attachment point to ensure I am not bending the tent's frame.

Well, depends on what you are mounting it to and now much room you need. I am (obviously) a big guy, so sleeping 3 in the standard one (full size) was not going to fly. I do have to say that the added room on the XL is awesome.

What roof rack do you use on your LR3 for this tent? We have the same vehicle and are looking to buy this tent. Do you know the basic size and weight capacity the roof rack should have? Thanks!

This is the factory LR3 Expedition Rack. I cut off the top half to use it like a Roof Tray from Rhino-Rack, Eeze Awnn, or Front Runner Outfitters. The factory rack actually has a bit of a curve in it to match the roof so overall it was not a solid fit. My recommendation is to get with Front Runner and talking with Alyssa. Because you are looking at a tent that is nearly the size of the entire roof, you really don't need the platform, only heavy-duty crossbars. I'd go with (3) adjustable height crossbars, and go a little wider than typical to you can mount an awning and walls on the opposite side. As for this tent, it's still not terrible. If you use it in inclement weather like heavy winds or snow, you will not be happy with it, its really a 3 season tent at best. The price reflects that. If you can, find a used Tepui or higher quality tent for the same price. Another thing that really wasn't explained in this video is that the extra vestibule area in the front of the tent blocks a large amount of your view. It completely takes away from the experience. I purchased a used Tepui Ruggedized 1.9M and love it. The quality of the walls, mattress, and flooring is vastly improved and I only paid $150 more than the Smittybilt 2883.

does the back door as u called it (screen near ur head) have a privacy zip screen to keep the light out or is it left open and only shut when u close the rain fly?

The rain fly is the darker portion... The window itself has the privacy portion and a screen. the privacy portion is on the exterior of the tent and has to be zipped from the outside or from the inside with the zipper down. That can be an issue when camping in heavy flying insects areas.
