I got a bandit last batch you had, I use it for food prep while im out and about and so far I love it. Steel is great and I appreciate the sharp spine to scrape things with it. I didnt know AEB-L was made in the 60's, its crazy that a steel that hold olds up this good these days.

AEB-L is my favorite steel.. it sharpens easy and is tough with edge stability. I have 2 by LT Wright and 2 by WC Knives and it is my go to steel. I have a magnacut Genesis that I put to the test but for the money I will always be happy with Aeb-l.

Love my AEB-L Next Gen. This and my Esee 3 are my go to knives. I sharpen the Esee 2-3 times for every 1 time I sharpen the LT Wright. Same sharpening process, but the AEB-L seems to get sharper and stay sharper!

Extremely underrated steel. Very versatile also with different heat treats. Actually a great steel if you don’t mind a light daily sharpen or rehoning it often.

Have the Little Pouter from LT Wright in AEB-L. Love the steel, so easy to sharpen to a razors edge. My Pouter is back at LT Wright for warranty as the scales are coming off.

My LT Wright Trekker in AEB-L is one of my favorite knives. Bradford also makes several knives like the Guardian 3 in AEB-L.

Great video! I too have an LTWRIGHT knife, the Treckker model. It’s my hunting knife, it holds a phenomenal edge! I’ve skinned an elk with no problem at all, holds an edge like no other. Extremely durable, perfect steel in wet environments!

Absolutely ! What’s up Isaac ? On the Bradford guardian I ve seen several people say the edge or heat treat was impressive . I personally don’t care about the steel too much as long as it’s cooked good right .

I picked up a Smith and Sons smaller fixed blade on rep day for my first taste of AEB-L steel and it hasn't let me down. It's kept its edge with moderate use and hasn't shown any real signs of patina/rust/etc even when left uncleaned after use on fruits and veggies.

Knife center describes AEBL as 52-100 with better corrosion resistance... I like that simple explanation, seems about right

I would say its got all the best things about carbon steels, with stainless and even more "edge retention" than even "super blue" its tough as you'd ever need it to be, so it be ground very thin, very fine grained, takes killer edges, had great hardenability, so you can have it plenty tough for something like a kitchen knife, much tougher than most steels used in kitchen knives, at 64 rc. If you like low alloy steels but dont want the hassle of corrosion, this is the best. I'm currently grinding a 62 rc aebl kitchen knife that will be thin as a couple sheets of paper behind the edge. A knife like that will cut even when the edge is dull and yet still is very unlikely to chip. Hopefully 62 rc is hard enough to not roll at that thinness. We shall see.

Great video man! I am actually just getting ready to use AEB-L for the first time on a dive knife project and I am curious about its corrosive resistance properties. I haven't found a whole lot on that online. Do you have any info on whether AEB-L would be a good steel for that particular type of blade?

Is AEB-L a good steel for a dressing a deer?
@SMKWcom
@SMKWcom Жыл бұрын
Many people like it as a hunting knife, with an HRC of 60-61 its edge retention stays good thru large deer and even larger game.

@SMKWcom
@SMKWcom 2 жыл бұрын
Blade steel matters even when you are just collecting and not using knives. Keep them oiled and wiped down to prevent rust and decay on handles if you don't want to keep buying users or have you collection damaged.

Either AEB-L or LC200N is my favorite steel for knives. I don't mind sharpening my easily sharpened edge as much as I do concerning myself with keeping it dry or it breaking. That said, if you value edge retention above all else, S90V beats S30V and S110V.
