Teleport + kameo, end with air112, then use enhanced teleport cancel to safely turn invicible. You can also do f12g + kameo, enhanced smoke bomb to go invisible, then finish with smoke bomb.

I'm maining Smoke, and I love him, just getting down those teleport cancels is the hardest part. Back R2 is the dumbest way I can think to cancel that move, but that'd be fine if it wasn't like, 1 frame to cancel mid string, or you could dial it in. I've dedicated hours to canceling bf3 after moves, and still cant do it consistently, and playing against other people, I'm lucky to get it 2-3 times a match. It makes it really hard to wanna stick with him, when I could play a braindead character like Raiden, and do the easiest 40+% combos I've ever seen in my life every time I hit someone. I'm gonna do my best to stick with him though

Yeah the dash teleport cancels definitely feel quite tight in terms of execution. I wouldn't say frame perfect but probably 2-frames window only, from what it feels but I haven't tested it. Would for sure be appreciated if they could make that window a bit more lenient. On my end, I was able to land f32 dash cancel more easily than b2 dash cancel during matches. I'm just not used to it enough just yet. Best of luck to you and go smoke 'em!

One tip to cancel the back 2 more consistently, press back 2 into forward 3. With shortcuts turned on in the settings it will make this do the overhead into smoke cancel instead of having to do the back 2 into back forward 3.

@@gohansoloz2814 I can do it consistently now. Biggest tip I got is inputting back R2 twice. Now, I almost never miss a cancel. What I gotta do now is get to JustNasty's level and be doing like 5-6 single buttons into cancels for pressure

I came into this thinking I would learn absolutely nothing as I am a smoke main and a fairly competent player...but this entire time...I had no fucking idea that you aren't in recovery during the fall of the smoke bomb invisibility...I had to watch the first part in slow motion because I was so confused. That REALLY helps me out lol Is there any purpose for doing a vapor cancel after F3 other than fear tactics? Does it recover faster than staggering it on its own? I usually stagger f3...f3,2 to bait the upblock. Also if you do D3,4 and vapor cancel they can't counter poke. The vapor cancel makes it safe.

I'd say it might depend on the matchup but I'll be honest, I haven't played that much MK1 since I published that video. From what I've watched, you can use kameos to counter some more difficult matchups or use them to complement a character (e.g. more zoning, more defensive tools, more mixups, etc.). Scorpion gives a lot of additional combo damage, one defensive tool, and a mixup tool.

U can't abuse the cancel, is completely punishable by a low hit and if the opponent timing it right is a punish in full combo

well, I beg to differ because I've seen it being abused in tournaments and, as I wrote in the video, you can abuse it because it's a mind game about whether you're gonna let it rock or not. If you let it rock and decide NOT to cancel it, then it's a frame trap and they get hit if they mash. But yes, of course, there are risks to doing it.

and I could have added that it's not even considering the safety of some Kameos you can add on top of that as an extra layer of mind games. You can make this safe with some Kameos and it adds a lot of pressure too.

The fact that u see the cancel being abuse in a tournament doesn't mean is in -frame (negative) the opponent can touch and punish smoke.

well then when I encounter players like that, who just mash "cause it's minus", then it's a free win, cause I only have to use frame traps. So I just have to let the bf3 rock, no dash cancel at all, call the kameo, then confirm into 40% combo. That's why minus frames in NRS games are like plus frames in Capcom games. It's not the same kind of pressure at all.

Its the first time iv played mk in 20 years i decided to start playing again mk1 is hard is it better to have the timing on long medium or short? Iv been playong a week and i can hit a 12 hit combo with omni man but smokes my favourite i need to play like this it seriously cant be that hard? With practice

it comes down to personal preference. Long will be more lenient but you might get undesired moves come out randomly. I'd say start with medium and try to get accustomed as hard as you can. If having too much trouble, switch to long. But yeah, it comes with practice, there's no shortcut to combos proficiency, unfortunately. The thing you need to know also is that Smoke might be a little more execution heavy than other characters, especially when it comes to his smoke-dash cancels, they're rather tight.

Thanks a lot :) Yeah I do have some advice on the dash cancel execution and timing. Two things, mostly: 1) make sure you input the cancel after Smoke has disappeared. This makes it a bit difficult because it means the timing will vary according to the string you start it with. For example, doing b2 ~ bf3(e) takes longer than f3 ~ bf3(e), so it feels very different to execute. 2) make sure your input is clean --> one thing that I found helps a lot is making sure the 'back' and 'enhance' buttons are pressed at the same time as much as possible. I don't think it has to be frame perfect, but it's probably not very lenient (I'd say a 2-frames window, from what it feels like after some time using this character).

ah, so I think I understand now. You might have misunderstood the notation. F12, 1+3 is what it is, meaning you gotta press 1 and 3 at around the same time. Let me know if that helped :)
