smoker (and tashigi) were criminally mistreated, I liked that smoker who was an unstoppable force and the only thing that prevented him from capturing luffy is his sense of justice and honor but after the timeskip he became too weak and maybe in the future even irrelevant. I would have liked to see how, after alabasta, his perception of the navy and the government would have changed, leading him to want to rise in the ranks to change things while he remained for luffy what garp was for roger

What I like in this moments : 1.Luffy trust Zoro is the most loyal nakama in the crew, that's why he choose zoro to save Smoker, regardless he's an enemy. 2. Oda is a great writer. I haven't seen this anime in a while way before Smoker introduction but this scene show cases his character, morals, and way of life really well. Smoker letting them go was one of the hardest thing he ever had to do considering he had to question his own beliefs and what place has he with the Marines. That's very admirable. Smoker also had to swallow his ego and tried very hard to not acknowledge the kindness Luffy has afforded him. Haha
