Hi. I'm one of your subscribers that usually don't comment but I have to say that I really love and appreciate your no nonsense videos. I also really want to thank you for all the work you put into making these videos and sharing the recipies. I never understood the concept of "secret recipes" unless it's a company. I believe that good cooking and good food in general is all about making people happy. Sharing is caring, really is the thing to go for, in life. Thanks from Leo in Denmark.

I didn't want to just eat that potato salad. I literally wanted to jump in the bowl and swim in it. That probably says something weird about me but lets not talk about that. Let's stay focused on the food. That looked amazing!!! You had me before the bacon...then you added bacon! Thanks, Rus.

LOL Justin! I hope you give the salad a try sometime! It's good with or without smoke, but knowing you, it will have smoke lol :D

I made a smoked potato salad for a buddies Super Bowl party. Basically took my mothers recipe (Sour cream and mayo, as well. Grew up not knowing people put mustard in!) and also smoked a couple hard boiled eggs to add in, along with celery. Some were weirded out, but I'll be damned if it didn't disappear! Good stuff!
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
It's different than a traditional potato salad for sure but I like this recipe much better. With or without smoke. The dill and touch of lemon really gives it a light and bright flavor that I just love. Thanks for watching!

You got my curiosity when I saw title of "Smoked Potato Salad". But got a little skeptical about the "dill cream". However after seeing your "Creole Seafood Gumbo" you already earned "cuisine creds" with me. And as you said it's "something a little different". So I am going to try it and thank you for the videos. Keep them coming!
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
It's much different than what most people relate a potato salad as being, but really fresh, light and bright flavors. Some people may not care for the smoky flavor like we do, so in that case you can easily do this with no smoke at all. Just boil the potatoes like you would for any other potato salad.

Russ have you ever seen a potato salad where the cook mashes the potatoes.?? I live in Maryland. But I from SW Virginia. I remember as a kid. Old people would mash the potatoes in the salad. I go back to visit. I don't see that anymore. But a few year's ago I was down there for a funeral. There was a ton of different dishes of food people made and brought there. But I found a couple of different dishes with this potato salad in it. But I could not find out who made it. It's really good like that.

Yum Yum!!! Super easy to follow you cook.... I like that. My Dad made bbq sauce close to this in the 60's when no stores sold bbq sauce. Just the basic with out the cayenne, etc...Potato salad is another one of my weaknesses.... Are you torturing me bro? Do you use that smoker for wild wood weed too? J/K. I had to say that because it reminded me of the 70's....I love those little taters alone too... I bet you ate one. Did you get that cool knife at HEB? They sell them. Golly this looks so darn good man!!! I wish I lived closer or vice versa. Salud Amigo!!!! Asta Luego!!! = Happiness My Friend and until next time!!!

Hey Rus, love your videos! But if you don't have that smoker, could you add liquid smoke instead?
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoy my videos. You can do this potato salad without any smoke at all and it's still really good, and yes, you could put a few splashes of liquid smoke in it to give it a kiss of smoke. Just be careful not to over power it. A little liquid smoke goes a long way :)

Another grate video thank you. I have just got two questions for you. Question one the mustard you use is it sweet American mustard? I live in england and our mustard tends to be a lot stronger. Could I use english mustard or would I be better using American style mustard. Question two for the potato salad you used sour cream. could you change that and creme fraiche? Looking forward to seeing the next instalment. Regards Richard.
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Thank you, I appreciate it! It's not a sweet mustard, it is just a yellow mustard, with more of a vinegar bite than sweet. Kinda hard to explain. Yes you can use Creme Fraiche in place of the sour cream. Very similar products.

Smoky Ribs BBQ & Southern Cuisine Thank you very much for getting back to me. Regards Richard.

Off subject what kind of load do you think that 24X36 LSG can hold in terms of number of brisket, butts, ribs etc.
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Not sure exactly but plenty of room and height on top rack for 2 to 3 briskets depending on size and how you turn them. Probably 6 to 8 butts on the bottom rack also depending on size, and if your doing just ribs, probably 12 to 15 depending on how long they are and which way you turn them. I can't wait to get mine and find out for sure, not that I would need to cook near that much meat at one time unless I actually do feed the neighbor hood lol :)

Hi Rus. Wow that smoking gun was cool...can you "smoke cheese" with it too (well that end up sounding bit extra funny lol). We used quite a bit dill in Finland and I'm so use to it and it was shocker to me when I discover Ron had never tasted and when he did it wasn't as joyful moment as I was hoping. He is ready to give it another try now that he saw you potato salad....That's great news to me ! Everything on your plate was my favorite food ! Yum ! :)
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Hi Paivi! Yeah that's a pretty cool gadget. You can smoke about anything that you normally wouldn't be able to smoke, even mixed drinks lol! I don't see why you couldn't smoke cheese, but if you do, you need to smoke it, then put it in a plastic bag, and put in the fridge for a few weeks to let the smoke distribute through out the cheese or it's not going to taste good with all the smoke just on the surface. I love the flavor of dill and especially with sour cream and even a little cucumber as well. Goes really good together. I appreciate it Paivi and thanks for watching.

Your tater salad looks great Rus, very chunky and packed with flavor. Digging that you were getting some 'fall off the bone' ribs. For the majority of back yard BBQ eaters, this is the way they like it. Cook one way for the judges, and the way you like for everyone else.
@SmokyRibsBBQ8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joe. Something different from the same ole same ole ho hum potato salad. Man yeah, those ribs were spot on for ribs to eat. Competition style is ok, but I would rather have them like this any day of the week ;)
@tangojoe96948 жыл бұрын
It funny, so many times the rib snobs come out and rain all over the fall off the bone parade. We did a rib cook here a while back, testing sauces and timing, invited the neighbors over and the 'bite through' ribs were a hit but when the good were falling off, that's when the folks refilled their plates. It's good when everyone leave satisfied.
