I think the titanic anti-synergises with his stacking unfortunately. When minions died to the splash from the titanic before the second explosion hit them (125+) you weren't getting stacks from minions that would have died to the second splash and given you stacks. Also, tiamat stacks don't seem to count for additional stacks pre 25, but after you hit 25 it looks like the tiamat damage is calculated in with the stack?

Ahh, yes. The 33 minute Teleport Strat. How clever. I did not see that happening. Jokes aside. I didn't even realize as well that Zwag had teleport. I forgot he even had summs. Lmao, I was so focused on the tank and HP shred. Smolder is basically what everyone wanted to achieve when building a burn build. Demonic + Liandry's + Riftmaker + Sunfire + etc. Was always fun to watch but it doesn't really come online till like forever and usually falls off late game doing subpar damage. Because you just get blown up nowadays. Yi, Akali, Briar, Zed, Etc. But damn, burn/execute builds are super fun to see. Especially one that can actually be somewhat viable.

I don't think you were getting all the stacks because of the titanic. It's clearly visable that you killed four minions with one Q at 26:11 but only got three stacks. My theory is that if you kill a minion with the splash from titanic it doesn't count. And that damage gets to the minions earlier than the splash damage from the upgraded Q. I could be wrong but something seems off about the titanic interaction

It also wasn't working with tiamat early game, see: 5:20 The q very clearly kills both minions due to tiamat, but only gets 1 stack. I wonder if it just doesn't work with items

It looks like with the upgraded q it still gets most of the stacks but the further away they are the more likely it is the titanic gets there first which doesn’t count.

upping this, it wasn't functioning with tiamat early on. The tiamat is good for wave clear but it may in fact be interfering with stack gain (slightly)

Watching carefully this seems to be the case with all the items. The stacks only apply from damage directly from Q so every time he got some sort of area damage item like Gauntlet, Titanic, or Tiamat it would sabotage his stacking. Irony of him saying "This combo is great I have wave clear for days!" follow immediately with Q a full wave to death, but only get 1 stack as he is saying it.

no, check just before when he was fighting Vayne and you see a lot of purple, and it's on cooldown. The cooldown is just the timer until it refreshes the magic shield back to full for you. So if you take like 1hp of magic dmg, it'll go on cooldown but you still have the shield. Then watch as Brand attacks, and the purple does slowly decrease. Maybe it's only counting Brand's item dmg against the shield or something else buggy.

The runes are supposed to help in early game. I would never pick magic resist because to me it was an inferior choice to armor utilitarily speaking. Towers, minions, champs and even mage autoattacks do physical damage (except for items and built in on-hits), and during trades or tfs all of that is what is hitting you the most in early game. Unless you are too busted to dodge skills and get poked out of lane or repeatedly killed, I can't really make an argument in favor of the magic resist rune. You will get hit with physical damage 100% of the fights, not so much with magic.

I see your point. Armor is indeed more versatile than MR, just for playing around minions (managing waves) and turret damage. But. What about unit-targeted, or otherwise easy-to-land, magic damage? Dodging magic damage is very useful, but not always possible - think of control mages like Orianna or Viktor, or mage assassins like Akali or Fizz. Unless you play around all-ins, which are often heavy on autos, you'll want MR to "pay" less health for every CS claimed. What about setups for early and mid game skirmishes? Imagine a fight over first scuttle - let's say you get caught with CC and bursted with some magic damage you can't dodge. MR rune provides you anti-burst by increasing the HP threshold the enemy has to break in order to take you down - either kill, or leave at HP low enough to force a bad recall. Very handy for making plays. Speaking of burst damage, you're more prone to magic burst more than physical by definition, because champion base values of Armor at level 1 tend to exceed MR. After about level 6, I think it's true for even every single champion (but I might be wrong). What about scaling for late game? MR would be worth a lot in these situations, because spells "finally" start to hurt. If your build at this point contains some HP and no MR, it is even better for improving your effective health versus magic damage. If enemy team is simply AP-heavy, this alone makes you favor MR for this purpose. Of course, your early game WILL be worse, and in somewhere like soloQ one doesn't play for late game too often. Consider one more thing: standard Boots for bruisers and tanks. When they get to choose between Tabis and Mercs, why isn't Tabis the only "right" choice? What you're saying about omnipresence of physical damage is right, Tabis are pretty much the meta. However, Mercs are still built here and there, and considering your arguments they can't be used just for their Tenacity bonus in expense for something as valuable as protection from autos and physical damage. The MR they grant is still valued in certain situations. So is MR rune over Armor. Speaking of itemization, champions who hate anti-magic items (like Maw, Banshee's Veil and QSS) still exist and probably disagree with you. If you know when to use MR, despite Armor being better so often, you ARE at an advantage.

I have a very fun ITEM COMBO for you to try out (on whichever champ u feel matches well, I went for Katarina) Unending Despair's proc counts as a damaging ability, and thus, procs Liandry's and any other item that activates off of an ability. So you can do LIANDRY + RYLAI'S + UNENDING DESPAIR and u can slow (and burn*) the entire enemy team just by being in range of Despair's proc! I went for it on Kata cus you can enter combat super easy with Q, then go in and out for quick burst and heal. Ps. Use Ingenious Hunter so that it procs every 5 seconds instead of every 7!

You actually get stacks just hitting enemy champs with abilities. Q gives for kills on minions. It's kinda like farming stacks with ASol, all his damage to champs gives stardust, but only his E can farm it on minions.

Sundered Sky works only on autos - spamming Q simply didn't activate it. It appears bad for you build, maybe except for stats. Well. Full Haste Smolder next on the queue. Right? Asking for a tank Cassiopeia (on the Rift or the Abyss). Days asked: 298, days skipped: 7, winrate: 97.705% Core items: Archangel's, Heartsteel OR Iceborn Gauntlet, Riftmaker (for HP to AP conversion) AND/OR Liandry's Situational items (pick some): Rod of Ages, Rylai's, Abbysal Mask, Spirit Visage OR Force of Nature, Gargoyle Stoneplate, Jak'Sho, Frozen Heart, Warmog's, pretty much any new tank item Primary runes: Grasp, Demolish, Conditioning, Overgrowth OR standard Conqueror. Secondary runes: Manaflow, Gathering Storm OR Presence of mind, Last stand. Extra facts: You want Archangel's first, because Cass is so mana hungry. Gauntlet might work, because with E you'll proc it often. Heartsteel will easily proc because you're ranged and fast. For the same reason Rylai's will be excellent for kiting, just like bruiser Ashe. Spirit Visage synergizes with your E healing and shielding granted by Seraph's and Gargoyle. Extra points for building all three! "My viewers BEGGED me for a Tank Cassiopeia build... Tiamat, Hydra, and Titanic are actually really bad for Smolder. I was testing him out on PBE for like a few days, and I noticed that those three items steal stacks on his Q ability because they kill minions first before the actual ability does, so it doesn’t count.

tiamat and hydra items are actually terrible on smolder because their AOE shockwave damage can make you miss stacks by killing the minions before your Q damage hits. also, sundered sky doesn't work at all on his Q.. you were barely auto attacking champions so that item barely did anything the whole game
