I use this technique sometimes as well, but I like to keep the camera to take advantage of the depth of field. I'll still keep the camera stationary and move the null, by not attaching the camera to the null. I'll use a point light as well and position it stationary near the camera so objects are lit up and cast shadows as they come close. Since I do graphics for news media, this is my favorite way to show things like court document pages or emails in After Effects.

So many after effect camera movement tutorial out there, but THIS? This is the one I needed. Bro you're a life saver. For that you have a new subscriber. Thanks a lot bro.
@aku97902 ай бұрын
3:48 You dont have to create a null for each move, iirc, in the graph editor, you can just move the keyframes up, so it does the movement without having to stop before doing the next move. And if that works just like that, i think a camera would be better just for a simple reason, DoP, if you achieve that animation, you can upgrade it by putting some DoP to give more a sense of depth in those animations
@aliqureshi03742 ай бұрын
or you can simply Ctrl+Click the linear keyframe and it will adjust the graph for you automatically. For example you have 3 key moments easy ease starting and ending keyframes and ctrl+click all the keyframes in between them
@SebboThePotato22 күн бұрын
To clarify, moving the key frame up in the Speed Graph will ensure the movement doesn't stop. In the value graph, you'd have to adjust the handles to not be flat

I started doing (won't say learning) AE for almost a year now.. Never it crossed my mind to have null object tied to another null object.. Damn! I am glad to come across this tutorial... I am thrilled to try.
@neuroalchemist97092 ай бұрын
You could safe time and objects if you use just 1 null. Then edit the values in the Graph editor (speed) and push the keyframes a little bit up so the null doesn’t stop the movement 😉

Please correct me if I am wrong, but the reason why with the camera stops completely, is because the speed goes to 0. So if you just go into the speed graph, and raise it up, and stop it from going to 0 in the first place you'll be fine. I just tested it, it's great! Add some motion blur, a wiggle(2,10) and you don't need to create null objects and stuff, and just keep using the camera. But idk, I just started out with ae, sorry if I'm saying stupid stuff lol,
@benza31227 күн бұрын

I believe that with the camera in the composition, you can control the depth of field, blur, aperture, and other settings. Great tutorial tho!
@benza3122 ай бұрын
You're right. If you wanted to make a more realistic 3D scene, you would use depth of field with aperture and other settings preferably, but in this case we weren't going for that scene setup. I was specifically focusing on the movements in this case.

or u can also create a camera and link that to the null. Thats clear imo
@talzedit6 күн бұрын
If you made the movements, how do I edit the first movement if I want to change it. Because when all the NULL's are linked, it messes up, and I can't edit a second keyframe of the NULL because it's position value is on 0; 0; 0.

Way you switch the motion in the layers that doesnt view at all?
@sebastianbalog2 ай бұрын
Quick question. Couldn't you have done this with more cameras instead of nulls and wouldn't it have been better because you could have adjusted the focus so that each word would be in focus only at the right time and the others would be blurred? I am asking because cameras also have more specific parameters than null objects that only have Position
@benza3122 ай бұрын
I couldn't have used the exact same technique with cameras because once you overlap 2 cameras together, the one on top is going to be the one you will be seeing, and therefore "block" the movement from the previous one. I agree that blurring out the words would have been better, but this scene setup was done only for the purpose of demonstrating the effect. You can perhaps try parenting cameras to the nulls, and try the technique I used. If you do, please let me know how it ended up, peace.
@sebastianbalog2 ай бұрын
@@benza312 Yes I just tried it and you're right, cameras cannot be used but it's a shame, it would be much better. I hope Adobe will bring us a solution in the future

how did you do the 3D after effects mouvment in the intro ?
@benza3122 ай бұрын

@nicoborg27782 ай бұрын
Why not just use the graph editor and keep everything on one layer? You could have one null parented to another if you need some extra movement. I can imagine this would be a nightmare to jump back into after a month or so, or for a coworker to look at ;) Just Alt+click on your keyframe and increase the speed percentage (if you’re not a fan of the graph editor).

nah.. you end up with a mess of things linked to endless nulls. Instead make a camera, make a 3d null,, link cam position/rotation to the 3d null with a simple expression using 'smooth' command.
