So much great music was our soundtrack in the 70’s , it made anyone have a better day and get through life! So much good music you almost didn’t have to buy the record, 8_track or cassette , just listen to the radio ! But the main thing I loved about 70’s soul music was that everyone young and old listened and enjoyed it all together!

Classic song, GQ’s version was actually a cover from a Billy Stewart song of the same name in 1965 which reached #5 on the R&B charts, GQ covered the song (this one) and released it on their album in 1979 which ALSO reached #5 on the R&B charts. GQ’s version is the one most people know but credit should also be given to the artist Billy Stewart who released it 14 years earlier.

Some more 70s (and a few 60s) soul suggestions, Smokey Robinson - quiet storm; The spinners - it’s a shame (Jay would like the falsetto); The o’jays - for the love of money, I love music, stairway to heaven, emotionally yours (Bob Dylan cover; the live version from the Dylan anniversary concert is nice); Stylistics - people make the world go round, break up to make up, you are everything, i’m stone in love with you; Chi-lites - oh girl, (for god’s sake) give more power to the people; The undisputed truth - smiling faces sometimes; Friends of distinction - going in circles; Major Harris - Love won’t let me wait; William bell - tryin’ to love two; Tyrone davis - turning point; Joe simon - drowning in the sea of love; Lou rawls - natural man; Timmy Thomas - why can’t we live together (the organ is prominent in this); Isley brothers - it’s your thing, harvest for the world (power station did a cover), (from the 60s) - shout, this old heart of mine (you've reacted to the cover with Ronald Isley and Rod Stewart); The four tops - keeper of the castle, catfish, when she was my girl; George McCrae - rock your baby (his wife, Gwen McCrae had a callback song called, Rockin' Chair).
