09:40 I never knew about that lighting system to guide planes in. Was wondering where the guys with the light sticks were. Learn something new every day.

My FAA examiner told me "if we land and I have a hard time noticing the touchdown, you pass"..... I dont know why he was in that mood. I had spent hours in the pattern at KORL practing smooth touchdowns on the C182, long finals, short approaches and turning at the numbers. I gave my CFI a sculpture I made, it was a Hammer glued to a board with a nail through it... :)

This was a very good landing but not the best. You could still see a slight shake when the bird touched down. Many, many years ago I was landing in YYC (Calgary) on PWA (Pacific Western Airlines) so that gives you an idea how long ago. I had a window seat and was watching the short final to touchdown on the 737. There was no feeling of touchdown and the only thing that I could feel was the plane settling down on the shocks. There was a very, very, very slight back and forth as the port wheels and then the starboard wheels touched down. There was no reverse thrust but a gentle braking that you could not feel. He used probably 10,000 feet of the 12,000 feet. Leaving the plane I talked with one of the cabin crew. She also was wondering when we actually touched down. She mentioned that the captain was just back from 3 weeks vacation and was really mellow. You may add comments and fault the captain for so called "procedures" but he was in control and performed a landing that very, very few other pilots could perform.
