Whazupp folkss! Good to bring you guys up-to-date on the roundhouse around 16:00 into the video. Unfortunately no uploads next week, will be on a Survival adventure and need some time to change some things up in the process of making these videos. Enjoy!

Thanks guys nice work, great to see how well you handled that bow break! That's the point at which I generally start crying and give up rather than gearing up to a re-design- and that's probably why I'm drinking scotch watching, while you're breathing wood smoke and making great content. If bone or antler arrow heads were made from material sourced at your nearest pet store rather than foraged no one would think any less of the skill demonstrated. Good luck with the challenge and look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks.

A little tip on the fletchings, if you coat the shaft with your pine resin mix, then tie the feathers down. After the feathers are bound you can heat the shaft, the resin will reflow and encase the quills and thread. At least that's what i've done with excellent results using mix of pine resin and beeswax. Your results may vary

Julius what about making your knife hot and use it like a solder iron to help keep the pine glue soft?
@BoarhideGaming4 жыл бұрын
That would probably ruin the heat treating of the blade...
@bushbladesnbows.23784 жыл бұрын
Yea that would work with an iron knife but with tempered heat treated steel it would not. The knife would soften up afterward.

If you want a rough idea on how a trigger system for a crossbow should look, I'd recommend a video by Tod's Workshop called "Dark Ages Crossbow - Full making process". It is not a tutorial per se, but it does show you how those things work and how they are made. Additionally, the crossbow in Tod's video is based on a very early design, meaning it's completely made of wood (apart from the string, obviously) and it should be achievable with quite simple tools and without requiring nails or screws or anything of the likes. Of course it's not gonna be particularily powerful since crossbows have a rather short drawlength and much higher drawweights as compared to bows, meaning your 75 kg if you manage to achieve them aren't gonna be all that impressive, but as long as you are not planning on upsetting a bunch of armoured men-at-arms it should hold up fairly well.

You really need a different glue like hide glue, fish glue or cheese glue. They have some drying time to allow you to work your fletching. Also they withstand the shock of impact and the flex of the arrow much better than pine pitch.
@jamesmiddleton64644 жыл бұрын
@@1DrBar see video on skilcult channel for best explanation I have seen. Essentially it uses the protein in the cheese and the kasin to make the glue.

Also, RE: simple crossbow trigger system: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYjMi6Obo7d6rpo This video should explain a cool simple design used back in the dark ages that could suit your needs, no advanced machining required, basically a simple peg and hand tools should do the job.

Hope the gardaí don't come after Dylan's crossbow, according to Ireland's draconian legislation those two sticks are an unlicensed restricted firearm. What a joke, one of the many reasons I didn't move to Ireland. Anyway if Dylan can finish it I think he has a good chance of winning, simple crossbows like that can be quite accurate. Look to Southeast Asia for inspiration. Would be a shame to put this much effort in and not have a shoot off. Julius bow and arrows are coming along nicely too.

While I appreciate you both are proficient with knives, cutting with your inner thigh exposed like that is just playing a stupid game where you can only win a stupid prize. However unlikely we know it is that you might get it wrong, there is always the chance it could. Your obviously going to do whatever you do, but I just don't want to see a post where one of you has had an awful accident, that could have been avoided. Aside from that, enjoying the roundhouse content, and looking forward what is next for you two!
