The thing I like the most about Smooth is how he understands gaming nostalgia. Be it with the nostalgic quality of his arrangements, be it with his spot-on song selections. He "gets" it. He knows exactly what he has to do in order to make nostalgia and game music justice. A true gamer's heart among us.

It makes me sad that once we were able to do ACTUAL cd audio where the music wasn't 'rendered' in real time and had no real need to constrain itself to limits that we decided that licensed music from real bands and such was ALWAYS the way to go. Thankfully we've went back in some cases (mainly indie games and stuff). Even now it's usually EITHER licensed music OR specially created orchestral music. The SNES and eras before it were unique in the sense that the graphics weren't amazing so they tried their damnest to add as much emotion and mood to the game as possible by composing the best music possible for what was actually going on. The music here pumped me up so much as a kid and while I appreciated it then certainly... it brings tears to my eyes sometimes when I hear it now and it's NOT just nostalgia because it happens to me when I play games from this era for the first time. I never know how to explain it to other people, or even to myself. There is no VGM 'genre' because in itself every single genre has been represented at one time or another. The closest thing I can think of that VGM comes close to is probably commercial jingles. The point of a jingle in a commercial is to write something that is short, isn't annoying, and can get it's point across in a short period of time. VGM is like the extreme version of that. Write the catchiest music you can that could loop forever without getting annoying and sets the tone for the situation as best possible. If anyone else has a way to explain it better PLEASE let me know because I've been trying for years...

I never played X, but GX was ideed one of the best racing games I've ever played. But... why the hell was it so hard? WHY?????
@SoulGaleo19929 жыл бұрын

McGroove : "What's breathing?"
@falcon875210 жыл бұрын
There are actually 9 frames, but the ninth one is hidden behind the game footage. This is the frame that breathes so the others don't have to.

Penny Racers (ps1) got alot of great music. I already made 4-5 suggestions on another one of your videos (a few min ago). What you're doing is amazing and it's so funny when you do some silly faces or ring Charl in when waiting for "your" turn. Keep it up! :)
