@John - noticed setting it up as a "Private Network" does not seem to work unless you have an established Private Network (which makes sense). For those are connected via WiFi, these are generally set to public upon setup, so many may have issues connecting.

And don't forget to turn off your VPN on your Phone (and maybe PC), also don't expect the 3 XYZ axes to show (as per video) instead the octopus in OpenTrack will move/turn as soon as you press start, run the app and toggle Paused to Running.

John, I got to install the app and mess with it tonight. Absoutely brilliant work. The set-up you described here was perfect and I grabbed sample curves from another KZbin just as a baseline. With minimal tweaks this was a seamless experience. It is truly game changing to use as you can crank up the graphics and not feel the stutter, because your head movements "feel" smooth to you as a person versus dragging the mouse to look around. The fact that this is achieved without a wearable is even better. My wife was a bit freaked out when I leaned forward in my chair and physically looked out the window of the plane as the game emulated my actions. I will drop you a fantastic review on the Google play store and make sure I mention this as a must-have to all my friends. Hats off to you, sir.

Got it working in 5min. 10 or 20 times cheaper than anything else out there. Tested in War Thunder and really liked it. Still working on mapping charts to improve angles and such. Highly recommended.

Trying to figure out if I need to buy this because i have already purchased opentrack for $2 and its not letting FS2020 recognize the software. So I either buy the full game which is currently like $50 or I purchase something else that works. which IDK how its going to work because the app needs permission from the .exe file and you dont have permissions to use the exe file.

Bought it. Works as good as my old trackir5, altought it reinforces that head tracking are not for me, and that´s the reason I sold it. Just tried for xplane11 and worked as it should, for much cheaper. For those interested in trackir you can go for it with no doubt.

Is it possible for me to off center my iPhone? For instance, I don’t have any more room directly centered in front of me because my yoke and I really don’t want to see it on top of the yoke because it’ll impact my visual sight of the monitor. Is it possible to set it to the right my yoke and get the same functionality?

The more central the better. OpenTrack has a ton of settings though, so you could flatten the curves of the axes the AR framework might get wrong. It would work, just not as nicely, I think. I may be able to improve this in later versions

Downloaded this last night and used it in MSFS and Elite Dangerous, but now Opentrack wont open on my PC anymore but will run in the background. Uninstalled and reinstalled, rebooted, etc. Not sure what the Issue is. Worked great up until today.

Great vid. This helped me to set it all up, works for me in Microsoft flight sim 2020, Euro Truck sim 2 and American truck sim. Just abit of feedback, the audio in this is not the greatest, after watching it I went on to another KZbin vid and nearly deafened myself.

It seems this is a fine tool! When I use my internet over cable but do have wifi in house and the mobile is connected to that wifi, will this work? Or does mobile phone AND PC need to be connected via the same wifi? Is there any workaround?

Bought the app, very cool so far. I do have a slight issue though looking up and down, it doesnt seem to follow the octopus in game, and I can't look straight up or down. It will "loop" around in a really jerky way if I try to look up too much. Anybody know how to address this? Thanks

had the same issue myself. (Firstly make sure you are an administrator on your pc i think this matters) instead of trying to access the settings the same way he did in the video.type in the start bar "windows firewall" then click windows defender firewall. on the left there should be "advanced settings" which takes you to the same place he gets to and then follow the vid from there

Bronco Belligerence I just looked it up. To fix this, follow these steps: Click the Start button, then type Windows Firewall in the Search box. Click Windows Firewall, and then click Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall. Click the Change settings button. If a User Account Control window appears, click Yes, or enter your user name and password, then click OK. You can now make changes to your Windows Firewall settings.

I bought the app. Works great. I also wonder if the same could not be done on the PC itself. Plenty of cpu/gpu cores, so OpenCV or whatever lib is used to track the head would work, and with working from home, many have a webcam on top of their monitor already, that will always be calibrated / good position. i.e. ready to buy the PC version of the app if you make one :-)

I checked, this is built using arcore, from Google. They do Not have a PC version. So to run that on PC, running and Android emulator (from the SDK / android studio...) plugged to your webcam would seem the way to go. But that might take some significant cpu cycles.

​@@tasspus I used TrackIR since 2008 until the camera packed up weeks before MSFS was released!!! So now I use FaceTrackNoIR but with TrackIR's ProClip (LEDs) attached to my headset. FaceTrackNoIR does face tracking straight out of the box but I found it to be jittery unless you have a light source in your face which isn't for me. I've seen videos on here of people getting great results from FaceTrackNoIR in face track mode but I've yet to obtain such myself.

Hi John Thanks for developing this worthwhile app. I notice that my Smoothtrack interface on my android phone looks very different than yours. For example I don't see the colored lines in front of my face. Also the offset buttons are just sliders. Is this correct?

I can believe this works well in MSFS which is not very demanding but I fly IL2 and use EDTracker because TrackIR sometimes gets lost when I am whipping my head around frantically in a scissors fight. If this worked as reliably as EDTracker plus gave me back full 6DOF I would be very tempted but I don't want to spend £10 just to find it also struggles in combat and I have to return to EDTracker. If there was a 30 day trial I might try it.

If your PC is connected via ethernet cable, then the only difference is how you set it to "private" network...other than that it should work fine, your mobile phone just needs to be able to reach your PC

How was the developing process? I can tell this is not easy task and you develop some clever math transformation and then used some convolutional neural network? Was it a PhD/research work? PS: I bought the app. Excellent work. I like how you play it casual, but I think you just bankrupted Tobi

That's my guess. It's 6 angles; the X & Y axes are easy but the Z axis means you have to use transformation matrices and then the tricky bit is rotation with cos, sin, tan. I think the magic is the recalibration, it does such a good job of not losing you and coming back to centre. I'm pretty sure it's built with Xamarin.

Just purchased the app on iOS. Works really well, no wires or hardware anywhere, just place the iPhone under the screen, centre and go. Brings DCS world alive. I love the lack of hardware: no webcam, no LED clips, no headsets or special caps. Really useful, thanks.

I am really disheartened to know that you have not upgraded your SmoothTrack software to support latest android version like android 12.. I didn't need to connect with a cable. Just make sure you set up via wireless as the video instructs- the iphone and computer need to be on the same wireless network and connect via port 4242 (or whatever you choose to set it to). I set mine to private but some people commented above that they had to set it to public network. This works so much better than a webcam and Viewtracker on Steam.

Hi John: I installed your app late last night. I think I did everything your excellent tutorial advised and the app seemed to work on my first and only test flight. However, there were a couple of issues I wanted to clarify to be certain I didn't overlook anything from your tutorial: 1. The main app screen on my I-phone differs from the screen shown in this tutorial. I have a grey rectangle on-screen that has Sensitivity / Offset controls in the form of six white circles. One each for X, Y and Z and one each for Yaw, Pitch and Roll. In the upper right hand corner of this rectangle is a Reset button. I expect you have simply revised your screen design from the initial app, but I wanted to be sure I didn't overlook some setting from your tutorial. 2. In the video image of me on the app screen, there are no red x, green Y or blue Z axes projecting from my nose! Everything seemed to work fine in my test flight but feel there may be some benefit to "centering'" by having those axes visible. Again, did I miss an installation step? I would appreciate your validating that my two issues are OK or suggestions on what I need to do to correct for them. Thanks. Nifty app. I will be testing it more completely today.
