Prince was having legal disputes over the rights to his name with Warner Brothers in the 90's, so he decided to change his name to that symbol that looks like and Ankh and the symbol for male put together he's associated with, referred to as the love symbol. This, of course, made his name technically unpronouncable so he became eponymously known as "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" amongst the world until he changed his name back to prince once he wasn't with Warner anymore.
