As an elementary special education teacher I will say there is a lot of research to suggest students (especially with dyslexia) find it easier to spell when writing in cursive because it's about learning paterns as a whole word and not so much focus on individual letters. I read it in elementary school and people 100% thought I was smart for it, not because of what the book was about but because it was over 500 pages and nobody liked reading. They saw a thick book and assumed "oh he's smart, he reads a lot" no I just like magic and dragons. Same thing happened with Harry Potter once they started getting past 200 pages
