It’s been useful seeing this video. I did a job on Saturday, it was a three tier garden. Bottom patio being tiles, middle and top both concrete. I’m new to this, only my 4th job and never had any issues till now. I started at the top level as I’m sure you would too. I realised pretty quickly there was no run off/drainage but managed to sweep the water down the steps to the middle level. Then discovered that the middle had no drainage either so ended up with a dustpan and bucket scooping up the water which took ages 😢 the worst was yet to come though. Bottom level “patio” was already flooded and I’d not even started washing it yet. Again, dustpan and bucket scooping up water. Btw, this did have a full drainage grill the width of the patio. Lifted all of the grills, it was completely blocked end to end with sludge, leaves etc… cleared it all with my hands and it still didn’t help. What a nightmare. Ended up having to leave the job there after the customer admitted that when it rains heavily the water rises to her back door step! 🙄 Let’s just say a lesson learned for next time. Maybe I should have tried the turbo nozzle to blast it, will give that a go next time. Sorry for the long message but this was good to know I’m not the only one that’s had issues with drainage.

I've turned down quite a few jobs this year due to poor drainage and run offs. It's only when you mention these issues that some customers then admit they've had issues themselves when using a jet washer. So you can only image the problem a 21ltr machine for example would make. Doing checks like this should be part of a risk assessment before taking on work.

How do you check if a drain is blocked without an inspection camera?

Great job. I would say that drain went to a soak away. Its quite common that over time they become blocked with silt and the only way to get over it is to dig a new one.

Nice job. You dealt with the drainage issue well. As.you say normally a blast or two with the turbo nozzle does the trick. Maybe worth investing in a drain pipe hose kit for any future problems. They usually shift most things.

I’ve found that sometimes water/dirt gets under and into peoples back/front doors when using the turbo nozzle close to it such as at 5:55 , is there anything you can do to stop this happening, as I’ve had instances where it’s got into the house. Thanks

Fairly fit for my age so going to give it ago. Any help or advice in a newbe starting up. One thing i think i will struggle with is pricing up jobs. Was this the same for you when stating up. Great vid again, bud.and very informative , thanks for showing the sanding as I have a 78 square metre drive to do this week and was wondering how much sand it would take, but as you said depends on the gaps I suppose, anyway cheers for sharing 😎👊

Do you have a water diverter and a sludge sucker...these 2 items are a must for jobs like these , that also looked like it was a old clay drain and there's a good chance it's damaged and not particularly the fault of a previous person's fault who cleaned the drive ......either way , sludge sucker from either Rutland or AC pressure washers or a water diverter, you fill them with water and they create diversion for the water , admittedly it would probably just hold the water in that corner but atleast it wouldn't be hitting the drain and you could get rid of it with the sludge sucker , keep up the great videos mate

You have a jetter sat in your van just get a 09 or 10 jetter nozzle to fit your 3/8 hose then just jet the drain. that's all I do and we both have the same machine. How many hours are on your hour meter on the engine, that is quite a good trigger I used that one for a couple of years as long as your not downstreaming chemicals through it then it will be ok

Hi, I love your videos, very inspiring! I have a couple of questions, apologies if you've already answered these a hundred times!... What do you do with excess dirt and waste from a jet wash clean? Is it disposed of in the customer's brown bin, or washed down the drain? Or do you bag it and take it away with you once the job's complete? Also, what do you do if you need a pee during a job? I take it you can't really ask to use the customer's toilet since it's such a messy job.

Hi mate I've got a petrol jet washer and everything you need to jet wash a driveway I've also got a 15 inch surface cleaner that goes on the end of my lance as a quick release fit. Just wondering would I be ready to start on my own ? Obviously only small jobs first, and what treatments would I need to put down before and after? Really want to get it started as I hate my job now 😅😅

When you get a gulley with a rainwater downpipe feeding into it chances are that it will actually running to a soakaway rather than the main sewers. A soakaway is essentially a hole dug in the ground filled up with rubble and rainwater gullies run into them - soakaways eventually become silted up by decades worth of debris that the gulley will keep overflowing but draining away really slowly.

No mate it was very clumsy. If you attached the GVS side entry and proper hose to it, it could work great but at that point you might as well get a panther
