ERRATUM: There IS a side chain compressor, but it is in the send effects (SC comp). Somehow my brain cells didn't light up when I read "SC comp".

Great video covering a great machine!! As most users I was kinda disappointed when it first arrived but then watching the responsive attention from Sonicware gave me hope. Notice there actually IS a "SC Comp" (Sidechain Compressor) in the list of the send FX. It is actual sidechain compression, not even need to cheat. It's there since the original version so also the one you used in your video.

Thanks! That's great there's a side chain compressor. I don't know why I didn't realise SC was sidechain. I think I didn't expect it to be in the send effects, which still feels kind of weird 🤔

This thing has so much potential. Like many early backers I was slightly underwhelmed as the design choices were revealed. Since obtaining it I have gone back and forth between thinking it is trash and then learning to use it to its strengths. I love that they have released multiple firmware updates already. The chop to kit recently added is just what I was asking for. Next I want multiple drum kits even if it means losing other tracks. This way I could have a drum track full of sliced breakbeat goodness, and another to slice up a song. Then you would have a pocket mpc. Either way, when I get down on it for it's limitations I try to remember how frikkan cool it is at the price point. I was able to simultaneously sequence my poly evolver and hydrasynth with it while playing chopped breakbeats and instruments on the box. I don't know what else can do that for the money.

I was one of the early backers of the smpltrek. I ignored the hype and considered it to be a simple portable song sketchpad tool and not a replacement for anything else. Even with those limited expectations and the recent update I still don't find it "Fun" to use. While I waited for the delayed Smpltrek to be delivered, I picked up a SP404MKII and it just blew me away. The SP is limited somewhat in the song writing role but since they added the TR-REC step sequencing and Chromatics its hard to put down and very fun to use.

Hi! Could you tell something about Global Track? I thought i can use it for the long stem/sample loaded from SD card. But it seems to be impossible. Is there any way to play a long stem on one of the tracks?

I use a "Shot Track" to play a whole song length file. Then you have all 3 Global tracks to record on.

hi, what is the sample time limit? I see that it is 180 minutes per sample... I would like to use the SmplTrek to create my songs (verses, choruses, etc.) and eventually mix the volumes within the SmplTrek (via a MIDI controller would be the best, in order to mimic a mixing desk!) Thanks

Can you export patterns as midi files to import into a DAW?

Hmm, I don't think so. But you can export the stems as audio to mix them in a daw

It is small, and the knobs as well, but I thought the screen was clear enough so I didn't feel it was any hindrance

The only problem with this thing is how small the screen is even though the display is so clearly organized. Love the offset pads for adding keys. I want one with a two-octave keyboard, some drum pads, the highest quality possible onboard mic, and a bigger screen. It still could easily fit in a backpack

Not for people with bad eye sight. Screen is way too small.

It is less small when you have it in hands, The screen could be bigger however for the size it is amazing qnd clear

That was my biggest concern. However, I find the screen to be absolutely fine. It is very sharp. If you have bad eyesight wearing reading glasses helps enormously!
