Wonderful interview. Good to see WV asking those uncomfortable questions about her current form which to her credit Smriti answered candidly. Smriti in full flow is a treat for the eyes hitting those exquisite cover drives, pull shots and down the ground shots. Unfortunately, she got hit by the perfect storm - pressure of being highest paid player at auction + captaincy pressure of an iconic franchise + lead a new set of team-mates + new coaching staff. Not only that. A lot of things did not go her way. Some are her mistakes. Some are not. She is calm and composed and have the leadership skills, but do not have the knowledge and experience about field placement and utilizing the resources right. Just 3 days after returning from a depressing loss to gel with all the team mates she doesn't know much about. BCCI forced it to squeeze it in between world cup and IPL. They would have scheduled it after IPL so the girls could get more practice time together. More importantly, Captaincy is a new thing for her and didn't have enough time to find the groove. Also except Richa and Renuka She didn't have any other player on her regular team and do not know how to utilize them. The coaching staff also a bit clueless they just purchased bunch of stars but failed to bring balance in making the roles right, especially with respect to who are spinners and who are all rounders who can solidify the middle order. Being captain She don't have any knowledge about 9 domestic players the franchise have and all 6 foreign players are much more seniors and seasoned captain's for their respective teams that she can't held them accountable. First game was a blow out a team letting opponents put up 223 runs on board to chase 11+ run rate adds so much pressure on anyone. After losing the first game, they do not have any time to spare as the second game is on the very next day. In the second game though she was hitting at a strike rate of 143 and with a good flow that first game 223 runs kind of kept her under the pressure of trying more shots on good balls instead of rotating the strike. The third game they came so close but chasing 201 runs is definitely a challenge. Had they won that game things would have been slightly different with some confidence back. She missed a lot of details in captaincy and also on bowling side she do not have the resources right. The team needs a fine balance. If they can't utilize Dane Van or Erin Burns et all whats the point of getting them. Heather and Megan were not on the right form, the best bowler on the Indian side Renuka couldn't make any impact on the tournament. So a lot of things didn't go the RCB way. One good thing is we have a new finding Shreyanka Patil. She is 20 just years and she can emerge as a good all rounder who can help the 7th/8th down finishing role yet can bowl her 4 overs on team India.

The WPL is not a fair league. MI plays all their matches at the home ground with the support of the home fans. If any team other than MI wins the trophy, it will be a good plus. At least they should have arranged the knockout game and final in a neutral venue
