수녀님이 질문하신 내용 정리다냥 1. 캐리라는 말은 인터넷 게임에서 자주 쓰이다 일상으로 정착된 용어야. 월등한 실력으로 자신이 속한 팀을 높은 곳으로 끌어올렸을 때 사용하는 표현이지. 꽤 자주 쓰이는 단어야. 더 강한 의미로는 '하드 캐리'라는 표현을 써 'Carry' is word often used in on-line game in the past and know also widely used in off-line. It is used when someone boosted his team with outstanding ability. When someone 'carry' a lot, we use the word 'hard carry' 2. 쇼미더머니 4에서 엄청 욕을 먹은 미션이 있었는데, 마이크 하나와 비트를 주고 래퍼들에게 즉석으로 랩을 하게 하는 미션이었어. 당시 심사위원이 스눕독이었는데, 이게 욕을 먹은 이유는 래퍼들의 랩을 듣는게 목적이 아니라 제한된 시간 안에 래퍼들이 마이크를 잡기 위해 애를 쓰는 자극적인 장면으로 흥미를 주려 하는 비인간적인 시스템이었기 때문이야. 당시 프리스타일 랩의 최강자로 불리던(지금도 그의 프리스타일은 최상급이야. 마이크스웨거에 그가 허클베리피와 순도 100% 즉석 랩을 하는 영상이 있어 꼭 봐봐) 서출구는 그런 장면을 보고 충격을 받았고, 자신에게 마이크가 왔지만 그는 랩을 하지 않고 마이크를 잡지 못해 힘들어하던 한 무명 고등학생에게 마이크를 주고 쇼미더머니를 하차했어. 그리고 신기하게도, 그때 그 마이크를 받은 고등학생이 바로 영비야. There was cyper mission in SMTM4 which listened many bad words from viewers, which is rapping extemporaneously on the beat with one mike. (Oh, and judge of that mission was SNOOP DOG) This was bad cuz intention of this mission was not listening to rapper's sound but making interest by make fun of rappers trying to catch mike in given time. Chulgu was man who can do freestyle rap best in korea(he is awesome. Check out mik swagger episode he done with huck p). But shocked by that inhumane picture, when he grabbed the mike, he didn't spit but give his mike to one highschool kid who was in despair cuz he can't grab the mik. Time goes and that highschool kid grow to Young B 3. Swizz Beatz was judge of SMTM6 first preliminary round in LA, and he saw some video of korean SMTM6 rappers, says Young B as best rapper. 4. 영비는 '군인'이라 한게 아니라 '군바리'라고 한거야. '군바리'는 군인을 비하하는 말인데, 한국 사회에서 굉장히 일상적으로 쓰여. 군인을 비하하는게 일상이 되었다는 말을 이해하기 어려울거야. 그건 한국의 사회적인 측면을 보면 이해할 수 있어. 너도 알겠지만 한국의 남자는 의무적으로 2년간 군대에 가야해. 그러다보니까 굳이 사람들이 군대에 지원하지 않아도 군인은 차고 넘치고, 그러다 보니까 국가에서는 굳이 군인들을 끌어 모으기 위한 혜택을 줄 필요가 없어. 그러다 보니까 자연스래 군인은 나라를 지키는 위인으로써 존중받지 못하고 그저 소모품처럼 여겨지게 되지. 군대에 들어가는 자금의 횡령은 일상이 되었고 군부대 근처의 상인들은 군인들에게 더 비싼 값에 물건을 파는 경우도 많아. 군인이 전시가 아닐 때에 일반 시민에게 위해를 가하면 처벌을 받는 것을 알기 때문이지. 1년 전 기준으로 군인의 월급은 20만원이었어. 이렇게 군인들은 대접받지 못하고 대학교에서 군대를 다녀온 남자들은 나이 든 사람 취급을 받고는 합니다. 군바리는 그런 느낌의 단어에요 Young B says 'Goonbari', which is degrading expression of soldier(like nigga or bitch, actually not this serious but anyway). You may not understand the situation of people use degrading expression of their soldiers, you must know about korean society to understanf this. In Korea, young men MUST go to army for 2 years. So nation don't have to give benefit to attract people to army because there are lots of soldiers already. That makes soldiers treated like 'useable stuff' rather than 'noble and brave man fight for us'. Embezzlement of products in army is so often so we can't even count of it. Retailer near army often sell products more expensive to soldiers cuz they know soldiers can't harm them (it's big illigal for soldier harming normal people). About 1 years ago (i cant remember now) soldiers get 200$ per month as salary. Like this, soldiers don't treated in korean society and in college, man after going army often treated as 'old man'. Goonbari is that kind of word. Old fashioned soldier. its done. MEOW

Unlike the States where soldier is like... a glorious job and it has dignity, in Korea the military service is inevitable but crappy, and and it takes away 2 years of youth from Korean males and fills the 2 years with all those burdensome works and unreasonable mistreatments. So the word "soldier" is frequently used to diss somebody. It's actually a bad word, since it looks down on soldiers who are doing nothing but working hard. 삽질 (Sap-Jil, meaning "shovel"ing) is a metaphor for doing meaningless things in military, since they really make the soldiers clean up the snow WHEN IT'S SNOWING. Man, I got too much to say about this, but I want to recommend a song instead. I don't know if it has English subtitles yet, but it's a live-in-studio and it's about the mistreatment-actually the death of a friend soldier- done in the army. And to add the that, the punchline at that part was about Ness' chin looking like a "shovel" so he'd be doing a lot of useless "shovelling" at rap like in the military. Also, SMTM has a habit of bringing in foreign producers for an episode or two, so in SMTM4 they had Snoop Dogg, in 5 they had Timberland, and in 6 they brought in Swizz Beatz to have a taste of the contestants for that season. And Swizz Beatz picked Young B as the contestant with the highest winning probability based off of their audition in round 1.

Hi nun, i just want add few comments to help you understand young b's verse better: 1. You have to understand the Korean culture and manners first to deeply understand young b's verse. In Korea people have to show respect to people who are older (even if they are jst a year older than you). Showing respect could be using formal tone when talking to them or bowing when you greet them. Keeping this manner is important especially between male relationships 2. So when young b started his verse with "how can this 'bastard' - i believe the better translation would be "bi*ch" or "mother f*cker"-. But from this first verse young b shows complete disrespect to ness by cursing him. 3. "You must be a soldier" - young b used the word "gun ba ri" which is a disrepectful way of referring soldiers. Adding on to that i think the connotation behind this verse is that "although ness is older than young b, ness will not get young b's respect". In Korea you serve the army after 18 and people normally say you become a real man after you serve military (so until you serve the military, you are treated like a kid) - So, ness was over 18 but young b wasnt at that time and the fact that young b used "gun ba ri" to ness was jst showing disrespect to ness as a rapper and as an older bro. This verse is related to the next verse about ness was born in '92 and young b '99 - meaning "you are older but i aint gonna show you any respect". (But this is completely my take and could be wrong) 4. At the end i believe young b said "suck my d*ck" to ness. Again showing disrespect to an older brother. I think the crowd reacted wild on young b's verses because not only did young b showed disrespect to ness as a rapper but young b completely shattered the korean culture of respecting older people. That was a shock and excitement (prob not the right word, but you know what i mean rite haha) for the crowd.

Fyi, in Korea, the soldiers are not as fully respected as they are in the U.S.. Rather, more often than not, they are used as a joke or an insult. In this context, young B said "not attractive, maybe are you a soldier?" or something, which i think he intended because the soldiers wear the same uniform that they can't put any variables on, so they don't look attractive no matter what they do. Maybe whole this is because of the fact that unlike in the U.S., military service is mandatory to all the males in Korea, so it's not as big a deal as it is in the U.S.

so...'goonbari' which is translated as a "soldier" is actually a condescending word for the Korean soldiers who have to go to the army and waste 2 years of their life. If you are rich enough, you can get away from it, or go to bases that are very easy-going. -back to the point- So when the 'mandatory soldiers' have vacays during their service, they dress up nicely, ironing their uniforms and shit.
