샤이니 데뷔 이후로 언제나 샤이니의 존재와 곡들은 알고 있었지만 팬은 아니었는데 뒤늦게 샤이니 덕분에 인생 처음으로 덕질이라는 걸 해보는 늦덕입니다. 그리고 이제와 이 앨범의 가치를 뼈저리게 느끼고 있는 중이에요. 지금 생각해보면 종현이를 잃음으로써 가장 상처를 많이 받았을 사람들이 상처가 채 아물기도 전에 이런 곡을 녹음하고 뮤직비디오를 찍고 공연을 했다는 것이 얼마나 고통스러웠을지... 물론 오히려 상처를 드러내보이고 들여다봐주는 것이 회피하고 묻어두는 것보다 건강하게 이겨내는 방법이긴 하겠지만 그건 그 후의 일이잖아요. 이 당시에 이를 악물고 이 곡을, 이 앨범을 작업하면서 본인들의 상처와 상실을 들여다봤을 이 사람들이 참 대견하고, 대단하고, 자랑스럽고, 고맙네요. 늦덕이 된 이유는 샤이니의 음악성, 독창성, 인성, 팀워크 등등 많은 것이 있겠지만 무엇보다 이 사람들의 삶을 살아나가는 태도입니다. 제 주변 누구보다 저에게 삶을 어떻게 살아나가야 할지에 대해 큰 영감과 방향성을 주는 사람들이네요. 샤이니의 멤버 한명한명이.

The members were so strong to comeback so shortly after such a tragic loss I don’t think many groups would be able to do it. They’ve been so strong through all of this and it hurts me that such strength is even being demanded of them. No one should have to experience this type of loss, especially this young, in the public eye and almost 10 years into their careers. Honestly, if they didn’t return to music when they did I am not sure they would have returned at all. It feels like they never got to fully take the time they needed away from the public as though they just pushed through so much to maintain any sense of normalcy in their lives. I am so proud of them and I hope they know that Shawols are always here for them, and that we are always with Jonghyun too. Most of the time, I feel happy watching older content and don’t think much about how things had ended up, but then sometimes it just hits so randomly and it hurts so much. We are all still hurting and that’s okay, but healing doesn’t mean leaving Jonghyun behind. You don’t have to feel guilty about learning to feel better, you don’t have to inflict sadness onto your heart to prove to yourself that he meant something to you. Healing will take a long time and you may never be the same as before, but it’s a process you have to allow to begin.

I have never seen a group love each other the way that SHINee does. I'm not just talking about Kpop, but music in general. We've had boy and girl groups around forever and a day, but I have legit never seen five people love each other as fiercely as them. The fans suffered a great loss, but they lost a brother. What they lost is deeper than losing a favorite singer or labelmate. They lost a person that became a family member. People, please love each other. If you see the signs of depression, reach out and help. Ask questions, be there for someone in need, and learn about mental health. Tell your friends and family that you love them. I don't want to be a hypocrite, I learned more about SHINee after what happened. But I just remember the fact that even if I wasn't a fan, I cried my eyes out that day as I was considering the same thing around those days and I just broke down in tears looking at his fans. This is beautiful. It's also the most emotional SHINee song ever. I won't deny it: it was hard to watch. Why? Because it depicts perfectly how it feels to mourn. The feeling of "why is the world still spinning while my loved one is gone? does my life still have meaning after this loss?". And while your reality is spiraling out of control you keep up your daily routine because you don't know what else to do: "everything seems so meaningless now, might as well go to the gym/to work/to school etc". You go through the motions of the day and nothing feels real anymore. This video managed to describe this soul-less state very well. So it hurt a lot. Art is supposed to hurt, sometimes. We must acknowledge the pain to heal. Thank you SHINee. You work hard. We will love you forever.

The video shows their lives after the incident. Minho was recording the movie 'Inrang' for that moment and had to resume recordings in a short time. It shows Key dancing alone. Onew lately has been writing lyrics and the gym is a common thing for idols. That means they tried to continue with their routine, their activities. But it was like time goes by and they are in the same place. A burdensome. They decided to walk the same path together and stay five as SHINee was the best for them. Of course, this is my interpretation. ⚘

Someone mentioned that the MV shows them after 18th, how they were surviving through it all but not really living until they found comfort in each other and Shawol (pearl aqua lights) and the end, getting up on stage again surrounded by these lights (love and comfort from people around them) representing them starting to live their lives again as Jjong would've wanted them to do. I love that and agree, they have shared how they struggle at the beginning to the point they got counseling, I also think this is they way to show us that we can go through this together and keep going even if it's hard 💕🥀🌕

Nah, some shawols can't watch it not solely because of the members. You have to understand some shawols are hardcore Jonghyun's fans. For instance, my friends, and they told me they love Shinee to death but this song just hits so close to home y'know. I know the members have it harder than us cos they're super close. But u gotta understand some fans too, it's hard to watch and listen to a song that is dedicated to your ultimate bias that you've lost and would never see him on stage again, *ever* . I agree, it was so hard for me to watch this MV, simply because it was so directed towards Jonghyun. I guess it’s because the situation is so surreal, and hardcore shawols definitely, no desperately want to stream this song, and make the views better, but we need to understand it can be hard. It was so hard for me, but I finally pulled myself together, watched it, and cried. This MV is beautiful, and it deserves so much more attention, but SHINee didn’t make this for attention or for views. They made this for Jjong. Views shouldn’t matter, and if that’s the only thing you want to look for, that’s kind of sad. when Onew says “You did good” at the end, I swear, I couldn’t control my tears, and I’m not the type that cries. I’m not a Shawol, but i have listened to them for a while. When I heard about the loss, I did get sad. I think what made me cry was to see how much they cared, and how much their fans care about them, it’s really touching. Even though this song was for Jonghyun, it reminds me of my brother. He died on March last year, so about 2 months after Jonghyun’s death. Wow, personally what i got from the mv: Jonghyun loves to make music (onew did that in the video), work out( taemin did that), dance (key) and minho resemble him as a hardworking person in the industry. Each of there action is base on what jonghyun love to do. And at the end he love the most is to be SHINEE so each of them will contineus for him. after watching it all day, I really see how these probably were what they did after Jjong's passing. Minho had his movie to film Onew concentrated on music maybe Key practiced a lot, maybe focussed on the comback (bc he is dancing to Good Night) Taemin went training what was something he and Jjong often did together. Also those scenes where time just passes by them, like the world is moving on even if it stopped for them.

I remember reading ‘the note’ online in 2018 but I wasn’t aware of SHINee as a group so much. Reading what Jonghyun wrote was so heartbreaking and this is coming from someone who just learned about k-pop in 2018. Fast forward to March 2019 I decided to try listening to a various k-pop artists and The Story of the Light captivated me in a way I never thought it would. I grew up listening to western music, particularly rock and indie but I’ve got to tell you there’s not a bad song on the album. Watching the video today has made me cry my eyes out. It’s so somber but at the same time a beautiful song where shinee are yearning for Jonghyun. I know it’s not something to be celebrated but why do I feel The Story of the Light should’ve won awards? I mean of the international kind.

Ah man. I'm here to listen to this again after years of avoiding it. This song made me cry so much after everything happened. The next year I literally avoided listening to any SHINee songs because it just made me burst out crying. It took a year before I started listening to their older songs again and slowly the tears didn't come anymore. But this song, this song still hits me so hard. SHINee has been part of my life since I was 13. I'm now 25. They have been my source of strength and inspiration throughout those years and continue to be. I can never turn my back on them, ever. I'm so happy they're back 💙 Jjong will be so proud of them, I just know it.
