the fact that this song is japanese is so surprising because it's so kpop-like.. I feel like normally japanese releases from kpop tend to be more 'jpop-like' but this is a song in japanese that's still totally kpop-like, it's crazy. I barely even noticed they were singing in japanese and not koean

As a casual Jpop listener, I'd personally disagree about the 2nd sentence. Maybe the type of Jpop I've heard just wasn't similar to Kpop, but most of Kpop groups' JP songs to me just sound like slightly different/lower quality Kpop in another language 😅. The only song released by a Kpop group that sounded like Jpop through and through to me was IZ*ONE's Suki to Iwasetai and a few (but not all) of their other JP releases (and Le Sserafim's Jewelry too).
