At first I didn't understand why there was a white girl in the MV, but if you look at the lyrics it actually makes a lot of sense. Taemin talks about missing a lover who is separated from him and that he can't move on because he hopes that maybe some day she will return to him. He compares the two of them to "the setting sun and the rising moon", meaning two forces that are never able to appear at the same time. This could actually be a reference to geological separation (she is probably from Europe/America and he is from Asia) or racial separation. The song has a traditional Asian sound, which could imply that interracial love is not accepted yet (the old car also suggests that the time period is not modern). Society may forbid their love. Taemin says "I hope that this undying flame can someday embrace you gently" and that the "Flame of love" will be kept aflame until she returns to him. He hopes that some day their love will be accepted and they can be together. And they probably will be, since she hugs him at the end. So the white girl actually serves a purpose, she helps to tell a beautiful story of love that transcends race and prejudice.

In Japan indie bands, R&B / Soul songwriters and singers are much more praised than the idols (in most cases). While in Korea is pretty much all the other way. Y'all it's not about him being in love with a white girl. It took myself a moment to notice but after watching it for the millioneth time, I've deduced that it's about his love interest dying. Look at the car. In the beginning they are happy and sitting on the car in la la land(which could also signify that they are both dead are in the after life but that may be a reach.) anyway, suddenly it cuts to the girl floating in the air which can symbolize a transcendence into the after life. Taemin is still alive and fighting against her leaving him. (Cue the intense interpretive dance) but then his own anger and anguish at losing her causes him to become consumed by his emotions and nearly swallow him whole.(part where he turns into freaking Devil Jin from Tekken) and then the ghost of his lover comes to embrace him and calms him down. He's then brought back to reality and accepts the fact that she's gone. And if you look at the car, it's been through a wreck where as in the beginning it was totally fine. Hence my theory that she died from a car crash they were in. And what usually forms from crashes? Fire. Cue the Flames of Love. That's MY take on the MV here. I think some of y'all are reaching to think it's about him wanting a white girl and he's Asian so they can't be together? Bye LOL
