Robert Wang Delta might be the best airline now, but when I was 12 my grandma wrote a letter to Max Ward, owner of Wardair, asking him to look after me because that was my 1st solo flight from YYZ to HNL. I only had a cattle class ticket, but Mr. Ward bumped me to first class, on the top layer of the 747. It seemed that one flight attendant was pretty much assigned to see to it that I had the best flight ever. I got an amazing tour of the cockpit and galley and was even allowed to help serve 1st class passengers soft drinks. I was allowed to sit in the flight attendant's jump seat whenever I wanted, and when I was in my own seat, the flight attendant came over very often to talk to me. Little did they know that I wasn't a bratty child and I would have sat in any seat in cattle class the entire flight without complaining or disturbing any passengers. The first class passengers (on the upper deck of the 747) were very nice about me serving their soft drinks (I didn't spill any). Everyone who worked for Wardair loved working for Mr. Max Ward because his motto or belief was to treat every employee like family. To this day on Facebook you can find pages created for passengers and crew who still miss working for the greatest Canadian airline ever. Mr. Ward was a bush pilot who volunteered to fly in WWII. I think he was a hero (as well as every other veteran).

I'm not criticizing Delta at all. Things have changed, with necessity over time and I doubt anyone would be treated to a cockpit tour now. I will never forget the vast number of gauges and controls and at the time I wondered how even a three man flight crew could ever manage to watch all those gauges. Now, I'd opt to take a more modern plane and have a lie flat bed.
