It was a great morning for sure! I may go back one day this week and try my luck again. After that little rain we had a couple days ago there should be more fish move up. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Man that brings back memories of snagging landlocked salmon up in Idaho back in the 80s when I was stationed there.

That sounds like a ton of fun! I've never caught a salmon but have always wanted to go up north and fly fish them.

Thank you! I really appreciate the support and I'm glad you enjoy the channel and content! It really means a lot! I use a Bermuda Bay Gamefish 4' 6" Solid Glass Boat Series Rod and a Abu Garcia Ambassador 6600 SX Reel with like a 50 lb black braid. I really like that setup. We have used older models of the same rods and reels since I started as a young kid and they never fail if you bring 2 or 3 along lol. Good luck out there! I plan to be at the same spot I filmed this opening morning if the weather is good enough!

It was a ton of fun, but I was definitely wore out by the end of it! We can usually always go there and have days like that. Seems that's the first spot they come to when leaving the lake. I know people go for days at a time and catch them by the 1000's and more come up the next time it rains. I'm glad you enjoyed it, I figured you would lol!

I hear that! I don't normally like eating morels but I usually always eat the first few little ones I find. I enjoy them but only when they are small and fried to a crisp. Won't be a couple weeks and you can get some fresh turkey breast to go with them! I wasn't able to get out yesterday but I'm about to leave the house and head that way to look now so hopefully I get lucky!

Hey Chance, seeing you dad fishing from the ladder reminds me of a trip I made to Pyramid lake outside of Reno NV last March to fish from ladders and catch big lake trout. Search KZbin for Pyramid lake ladder fishing. It’s amazing, all these rows of ladders about 15 feet out in the lake. It was a hoot. My brother and his gang go every year but it’s just to far from St. Louis for me to go again.
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I will have to check that out later! Sounds like a blast! It can get crazy here, I have seen times where there were around 30 different guys with ladders out in the river, not to mention the guys standing on coolers in truck beds, or the guys in trees near the waters edge. I will definitely check that out though sounds like something I would really enjoy doing, may have to plan a trip one of these days!

What are those lures called your using to snag the suckers
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors7 ай бұрын
If you look up bass pro shops sucker hooks you should be able to find them. It's basically a bottle opener with probably a 2/0 hook if I had to guess, braised or welded into place. We used to make them all the time when I was younger. Hope that helps!
@cliffbellomyjr26439 ай бұрын
Hey have you ever fished for them using bait? I've seen it done elsewhere but curious as to if anyone has done it like that in these parts
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors9 ай бұрын
I have tried a couple times but wasn't successful. I have watched guys sit and use corn to catch them up near the damn near Springfield later on after they do their spawning run.

What was the actual date you were fishing? There were a ton of suckers in that hole last year . I have some video off the bridge. Pretty cool. That’s a good place to grab off the bank.
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors Жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure what day it was but I do believe it was the first week of grabbing season. We normally hit bull creek first. We actually went this year but I forgot the go pro and I wasn't in a location I could use my other cameras so I wasn't able to get video of it.

I remember a friend of mine telling me how good Bull Creek was for grabbin back in the 80's. Apparently it still is. Nice job. I'll bring the taters and onions lol Any morels up yet ? I'm coming down this coming weekend for youth turkey season.
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
It is a great place to grab! I've been going there for like 10 years now and it seems like the first spot where people can find fish and usually the water is low enough you can see them. It had rained like 2 days before I filmed that and the water was still high and very swift. Normally a guy can limit out in 2 hrs or less if they know what they are doing. Sounds good to me lol I haven't cooked out on the river in a very long time! I'm going to check the morels again today but so far I haven't had much luck. However the Facebook group I follow has a progression map and there are confirmed find in almost all the counties below and right above me. So I should be able to start finding small ones here soon. Good luck this coming weekend! You may get lucky and find the morels while turkey hunting they should be popping good by then!

What part of bull creek is this? Its very shallow last time i checked.
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors10 ай бұрын
We were right near the F Hwy Bridge, right before you get to bull creek. I haven't been by there since last spring but I don't doubt it's fairly low.

Dude that's fantastic! I'm going to look again today. I almost hope I don't find any I'm worried about the 28° night we may Thursday killing anything that grows this week and we are supposed to be in the 60°s on average so I'd say they will start popping good this week.

do those fish taste good? I catch them often by accident but catch and release. tight lines brother 🎣
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I mean yeah they taste good, but there is alot of work to clean one. We scale them, then fillet them with the skin on. Once that is done we cut slits into the meat side almost to the skin about 1/4 inch apart. Which is called scoring. They have a ton of tiny bones and this cuts them up enough the really hot oil fries the bones away. But yes they do taste good. This particular sucker has a very soft flesh so it has to be handed carefully or it turns to mush quickly.

@@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors I brine trout in maple smokehouse seasoning and sea salt overnight. Rinse and pat dry air dry 1 hour and cold smoke my trout over apple or cherry wood slow for 4-8 hours depending on size fillet or fish. I wonder how these fish would taste cold smoked over hard wood.
@ChanceWithMissouriOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure, honestly though what doesn't taste good after being smoked 😆 I haven't ever had trout, I keep meaning to go catch some and try it but the closest trout river is almost 60 or 70 miles from where I live. Plus we have to have a special permit here to catch them in most places.
