Thank you! I am honored that you used my snake post 😃. It’s important to note that I thought the snake was venomous at first so I really didn’t know what to do. I know that is just a “common water snake”. Very common in Pennsylvania where I live. Your reaction is a lot mine - shock and disbelief. I watch your videos all the time and was delighted to see my fish room on your channel. My post also included a quick scan of my fish/turtle/plant/room. It is my happy place.

When I was a kid my dad literally had to pull our dog out of a python's mouth. As in, it was halfway through being swallowed. One of the people in my orchestra has a new puppy who has supervised outside time because there's a python who lives on their block. Making sure bird cages, chicken coops, guinnea pig cages, etc. are snake proof is an extremely common thing where I'm from.

Perhaps such a high level of nitrate in tap water is due to farmers dumping too much high ammonia manure on their fields in the area the tap water is sourced from. The nutrients from the manure leach out into ground water and open water if not consumed by vegetation. Eutrophication can become a very serious ecological problem if manure, number of animals, type and amount of feed aren´t regulated.

In the Czech Republic tap water is considered safe by local authorities when it has below 50 mg per liter. Currently the water coming out of the tap in Prague has 30 mg per liter. This is why I have a hard time bringing down nitrate with water changes.

Snake is a (common?) watersnake. They are great swimmers and predate predominantly on fish. They aren't commonly kept as pets and the wild ones can be pretty aggressive, though they are not venemous. I'm betting the person filming didn't realize his fish was about to get eaten, but once it got bit it's basically done. They probably got bit a few times trying to remove the snake from the house, if it's any consolation.
