@@pspicer777 Thank you for your extremely kind words, however I feel bad that I may have unintentionally mislead you. We first met at about the age of 11 and started dating until we left school at 16 then due to work commitments we drifted apart, occasionally meeting up at parties, school reunions ect. Eventually marrying other people, then in 2008 both having failed marriages we got together and married in 2009. Sadly she passed away in 2016 with a brain tumour. I should never have let her slip through my fingers all those years ago. Please forgive me for misleading you.

David Leaney DL, your story as you have filled it out is truely wonderful. Full of rich life experiences ... it might be that without the intermediate experiences, you and your wife would not have had the synergies that existed in your marriage. One will never know for sure, but it does sound as if you were able to find true love and partnership in the time you had together. Very few do. A life lived to the best of ones ability, although imperfect, needs no apology. Be well DL.

He tells me of the wonders of the 60’s but the sadness’s of the war and how many friends never returned or were treated poorly when coming back from the war at only 19-20 etc. I can’t imagine how it was to feel that and so thank you for what you sacrificed for the country and what the country had those young kids do by mandatory rules. I'm a Grunt. Was killed in 1978. Dead 100 days. I'm ashamed I'm too much of a coward to blow my brains out. I saw my buddies die also. They were better men/Marines than me. Got a bottle full of pills in my hand right now, but that's too p**** for a Marine. If I can ever conquer my cowardice, I'll go out like a Marine: .44 RemMag thru the brain. (.45 would be better, but a scumbag I trusted stole the .45 I carried in the Corps.)
Jill King I blame Partridge Family songs turning me into Rock n Roll junkie, I was crazy about Rock Music, Stones, Zeppelin, Alice Cooper. In High School a Teacher got Allman Brothers to play for us. Funny because it was a Catholic School. It was funny in Buffalo, NY almost every band opened saying HELLO BUFFALO. That Buffalo called SNOW CAPITAL OF USA because of 1977 Blizzard. I get it we got 19 feet of snow that winter. City & Schools closed 3 weeks. We only got Visitors because Niagara Falls is close. Even now we average 10 feet from Lake Erie. @@johnalex4391 Well John, you seem to have a pretty myopic view of music and now that you mention you are a drummer, I worry about you. I would have thought a musician would have more of an open mind and acceptance of newer artists and their creativity. Reading your post make it look like you are saying, any music written after the 70's is crap and I was just trying to point out there is a ton of music that isn't crap. It's also pretty insulting to many newer musicians, to call their music crap. To be honest I have my doubts about your ability to recognize a good singer / songwriter, for you to make this statement "unlike the modern crap that makes me want to scream". If you are talking about top 100 music, I would mostly agree with you but that is not what you said. Is talent-less artists like Britney Spear's music (wait while I choke) crap? in my opinion, absolutely. I would categorize it as bubble gum music. You come off and sound like some old geezer and all I am saying is I think it is obvious (if you are actually being truthful) that you don't know what you are talking about. Just because you say you are a drummer doesn't make your opinion any more relevant than mine and you seem quite biased in your opinion. I'm in my 60's and I think I can recognize quality music outside of the 70's and there is a lot out there. I think you are missing out on a lot of good tunes because you seem to be so biased. Your loss I guess!

As a strong believer that there is life after death, this is a song [even if filled great sadness] that we will carry on in our hearts, in our souls for eternity as it will transcend time and space. To all the people who have lost their loved ones in their lifetime, have faith because it is the only force that gives us hope, that drives us forward along our life's journey. I firmly believe that we will reunite one day in God's Kingdom for everlasting life. Do not despair, we are here on Earth for only a brief passage in time like a spec of dust. To all the people that have been diagnosed and are stricken with a terminal disease, have faith that there are greater things waiting for you in God's Kingdom. My heart and compassion pours out along with my prayers for all of you. May God bless you all. I have lost many family members and friends along my life's journey, but I have faith and refuse to believe that we turn into dust and nothing more.

To me this is not a sad song. Yeah, it's about dying and some regret about decisions made in life, but at the same time it affirms a life that was lived to the fullest. Tt also makes it very clear that life goes on even without us, and that even in death our presence is always felt. Great lyrics and catchy melody.

Susan Jacks passed away on 4/25/22. Her husband Terry wrote and performed this song. It's beautiful and timeless. RIP. Hope you all find peace in your lives.

Terry Jacks did not write this song. Performed it beautifully, yes, but did not write it.

actually, the poet Rod McKuen wrote and performed a much grittier and provocative version. It included his friend having an affair with his wife. Check it out.

@@arthurneilledock4783 I listened to it. A poet yes, a singer? GOD NO. This song was given to Terry Jacks by the universe.

This song came out right after my dad was killed. I was only three and hardly remember him but i remember this song on the radio and it reminded me of him. Still can't listen to this song without crying. Miss and love you dad 😢

It's both a depressing and a beautiful song. You are part of your dad...a part of your dad still lives in you ;) Take care.
