I took my son (13) on "Snakes and Ladders" at the tail end of August, a bit rainy that day! after the big storm. He couldn't climb the chain "snake" and I had to 3:1 pulley haul him the whole *&##* lot (good practice for my rescues) and his first ever abseil was getting down the other side. We got up the ladders to the buildings but he was too tired to go down to lost world and it was all a bit too much for him. For safety I didn't force him to continue but I really want to go back and finish it off. The great ladder of Mordor looks like there might be some feeling of "justifiable concern" when climbing it :) Looks like you guys had great fun. Thanks for sharing video.

that is one big quarry....this must be an accessible part seeing as how it is now a museum and other activities take place like diving... it would be nice to see inside and the old tramways....

At 03:01 you enter the small quarry nicknamed Hades (not California as described) the next one you get to (with the tunnel up the cliff with the chain) is California. Near the end of the video when you ab down into the big pit from the tree is the Lost World and then a tunnel into the final one with the huge ladder (not shown in this video) is Mordor. Where the bridge of death used to be, the big hole you are trying not to fall into is Twll Mawr. Hope this helps... If you go back, up the ante and try "hobbits, ladders and tunnels" (you can easily bypass the wobbly ladder pitch or you can clip stick it) and please let us know how tight that hobbit squeeze is! I've got a 34" waist and weigh 74 kg, would I fit through?? Thanks

I don't get why all that has to be waste? There are thousands of huge blocks of slate already blasted of the mountains why don't they use it and clear up the "waste" I never have understood that about slate mines. Great video none the less guys👍

Only a very certain grade of slate is useable, it has to be just right and can be split (hammer and thin/wide chisel) into thin roofing slates. Most of it in the ground isn't right. Even when they hit a vein that is perfect, of the rock that is dug 10% is used but 90% is waste. 90% waste!!! That's a lot of sweat and toil for each roof slate

Some of the wast is being used for things like paths after it has been crushed and it is also used to cover areas of garden that people do not want to plant in . It looks nice with the blue / grey tint and really nice when its wet from the rain. A fortunate thing in England and especially Snowdonia
