Here in New Mexico, during the Pandemic, the Income Support Division SLUGGISHLY sent their legal notice out (MAYBE in 3 to 4 months time) letting SNAP recipients what their monthly increase would be. - As of about a week + ago, BOY OH BOY!! The state jumped on it to let the recipients know that they would be dropped back down to their regular monthly amount! Mind you, (of course!!) they don't even BOTHER to inquire about the elderly and disables medical deductions! (which is required by federal law!) I was reduced from $281 to $30 come March 15th.

Disabled and elderly definitely need assistance. But benefits should be time limited for able bodied persons. Citizens should be able to apply for benefits while you are going thorough a bad patch. We all need assistance to allow us to get back on our feet. But the programme should be monitored so people do not remain on it permanently. There should be linkages between agencies, so when you apply for public assistance, you also are assisted in finding employment to get you back on your feet.

If all SNAP money was given to poor people for food it would be a crime to cut it. Unfortunately RED states used much of the money money to pay for programs that have nothing to do with food assistance. The rules for states receiving the money should be changed so that all the money should only go to food stamps. More poor people will be helped and money will be saved cutting programs such as marriage counseling et al.
