You’re right about the wrist control and learning how to feel the tool and fastener. But what I like about locking flex is occasionally you have a situation where it’s really convenient to set the angle, then reach the tool into place and push it onto the fastener without losing your angle. Like with alternator or power steering pump bolts on transverse mounted engines.

I am of the belief that there is no such thing as too many ratchets, unless you’ve run out of space to store them :-) with that said anyone who works on cars knows you need all kinds of tools for the wide range of tasks. I just purchased that same FLF80 based on so many recommendations from others like yourself and look forward to using it. You have a nice collection and am quite inspired. Thanks for sharing!

I find I generally only have an issue with flex heads when I’m really having muscle something loose. Inevitably it’ll flex one direction or the other.

I've got an f80 100th anniversary edition (which is hands down my most used and favorite ratchet), a snap on fhld80 100th anniversary edition with a purple hard handle, and a snap on thld72r 100th anniversary ratchet, a snap on 71-10 ratchet, and a gearwrench 120xp flex head 18" ratchet.

I’ve got a collection to rival yours, including the breaker bars in each size. The ones you gotta try are the “bent handle” and “offset handle” 3/8s models. They’re super handy and spend more time in my hand than any other

If only snapon had a good locking flex head. I love the feel of the dual 80 BUT the locking flex and comfort grip on matco are sooo much better. Snapon is smoother by far.

Yes, always the right tool for the job. There can be access issues and sometimes you can uses two ratchets at the same time. I think you need to purchase some locking flex head ratchets👍

I love my ratchets as well. I have mostly snap on ratchets but in the locking flex head I much prefer the Matco so I went with those for the locking mechanism. The finish on the Matco isn’t as nice as snap on but it works great especially with the slimmer head profile.

Even the USA craftsmans, I can't Stang their square handles. Beyond uncomfortable. Also the craftsman stuff just looks very crude with their rough forgings and lack of chrome. Don't know, never been my thing

@@raffighookassian1724 Chrome plating is nothing more than a rust preventive. Chrome plated tools can be dangerous to use if oil gets on them. Those "rough forgings" on Craftsman tools are there for a purpose, for grip if oily. As far as chrome plated tools, ever cut the shit out of your hand from peeling chrome? Also, Snap On salesmen have, in my 43 years as a shop mechanic have always been snotty assholes. I've dealt with many. If one sales rep gets off his lazy ass and enters my shop(s), if they see I don't have a Snap On rollaway, they have always ignored me, no "Hello. Is there anything I can help you with today?" Cornwell, Matco and Mac salesmen have always been superior. I've amassed quite a few Snap On tools over the past decades and recently sold them all on Craigslist. I made the mistake of buying a Snap On 1/2 inch click-type torque wrench back about 1979. After a few months, the salesman came up to my work station (John Deere Industrial dealership) and said: "Why don't you let me have your torque wrench calibrated for you?" I let him take it and the next week he handed it back to me with a bill for like $25. I was PISSED! Had he said there would have been a charge, I never would have let him take it. Besides, why calibrate? The reason for torque wrenches are to tighten fasteners evenly. What's to "calibrate"? So what if it's a few pound feet off as long as the fasteners are all tightened to the same reading? That was the last time I dealt with Snap On.

@@47485ksc I know exactly why craftsman does the gunmetal finish, but personally, I've never had my tools slip from the chrome, nor do I have chipped ratchets because I don't drag my $200 ratchets across the floor. After a day of work, I spend a extra 5 minutes to wipe everything and put them back. I guess it's all preference, some people have good experiences with snap on, others have terrible. Personally I don't even abuse my tools so I have never even broken a ratchet. Breaker bars exist for a reason. What's most important is the fit in the hand of the user, more power to you if you prefer the craftsman, just not my cup of tea as I feel they are not the the same fit and finish

For me snap on ratchets are #1 then Napa Carlisle and if I'm trying to save any more cash I go gear wrench I keep it pretty simple on ratchets these days remember guys a used snap on ratchet from eBay or a pawn shop is just as good as one off the truck if and when it breaks they will rebuild or replace it

I have like 13 snap on ratchets and the people who give me shit about it have never even been in a situation where they arent going to get that $4,200 job done without one of them. If i didnt have the indexing one or multi application one there are a few vehicles the torque converter bolts/nuts weren't comin out. Period. My ratchets have paid for themselves multiple times over. They've yet to create a cordless or air tool that can replace my hand tools in the thick of it type situations yet. I love em. I've broken some of them but its literally been years later that i did. And i was pushing it with them. I've also used my 1/4 snap on ratchets for shit that normal diyers wouldnt dare attempt with their craftsman or whatever. I bet you could break semi lug nuts loose with a 1/4 snap on ratchet. Lol you know the difference bro? They have to use breaker bars.. we use ratchets as our breaker bars.

You could tell some of them had been used quite a bit due to the condition of the handles, its just a matter of cleaning and taking care of your tools. Not all mechanics stuff is covered in grease and beat up, just the sloppy ones.

No such thing as too many....new Proto ratchets are not terrible., they are awesome. Mac axis ratchets are great...Snap on is not the only quality ratchet, your completely wrong.. As far as the highest quality, most perfect looking ratchet...those are Nepros made in Japan.

Gearwrench ratchets that have 10 teeth engaged and do t break with a lifetime warranty vs 5000k in snap on ratchets that are 3 times the price because to pay for a lifetime of breaking and warranty jobs (and snap o. Shit break all the time, sockets and ratchets - if you’re really putting them to use - that’s why your truck has repair kits and they tell you the repair kit number on each tool -lol) , you’re already ahead. Invest in knowledge and tools that make you day easier not tools that dig into your paycheck. I sold my snap on ratchets. That’s how little I used them. I once bought into the expensive tool hype. Some people just never wake up.
