Just reading through these comments, my assessment about the reactions to Remake are accurate. It was so freaking good that it made a lot of new fans, but so obviously different that said new people want to play OG first. And I think that was the plan, they want people to still want to play OG, but JRPGs are big and it's not surprising that people still haven't gotten around to it in 2-4 years (I haven't gotten around to it in over a decade).
