Thanks for a really clear video, now I know what’s inside the linear rail I feel confident to do maintenance on them

This will definitely come in handy when I take apart one of my dead linear modules. Thanks for recording and posting this!

You have to preload the backlash spring/nut (white plastic piece) when putting the leadscrew back into the carriage.

Most informative clear and educational video, awesome guys keep going.Just a quick question what was the reason for the binding or the freezing of the carriage could be just lubrication have you tries using white lithium food grade?

Nice, makes it really easy for the next guy should one need to do it. As a matter of interest is it required to put some lubricant on the metal strip in general.

Nice clear video, lots of users will find this useful, I could have done with it a few months ago :) Love the lens you have used, just a note about the sound, I think the mike could do with de-coupling from the table a bit.

It is a wrong assembly. The plastic part for sheet metal strip should be stretched from bottom to top... not bottom-top-bottom... ( sorry for my bad English :-D ) Its in time 13:59

Ha, of course there is! We'll record an addendum and add it as an annotation. But goes to show you *can* do it by hand, if you misplace yours.

Thanks so much for doing this video. I have the A350 and got it going over a day or so. I was puzzled how the linear actuators worked but not keen to dismantle one just out of curiosity. Mine are working fine. The only problem I had was getting the y axis in sync. Once I did that it has worked reliably. Did you find out what the problem was with your linear actuator?
@sethmartin1512
@sethmartin1512 2 жыл бұрын
I did! Was a popped cap on the circuit board. They have totally new boards on the T model so not something you're likely to run into.

It still looks like it is hard to slide, I took the stepper motor apart and reassembled which fixed the hard to slide problem.

Do you have a procedure for that??

@@sethmartin1512 Once you have the Stepper out, you just remove the 4 screws and the rod and all comes apart, there is a picture here. facebook.com/groups/snapmaker/permalink/1149212785497033 I found the rod was harder to turn than it should but after putting it back together it turned smoothly, I could not see anything wrong with it, I think the steppers are the main cause of the problem, once they bind the electronics to fail. More work is needed on the subject. It can go back together 180 degrees but not sure if this had any bearing on the problem, I should have marked it as cant tell either way. It could be a tolerance problem.

@@chrisnewman8353 Perfect timing, as I just finished doing it anyway lol. Nothing to lose now that my replacement is here. Discovered the microcontroller on the circuitboard had blown. Sent pictures to SM and offered to create a how-to on that replacement if they send me another board. I think they can make board replacement a user thing instead of just LM replacement for those comfortable with it. Save a bunch of wasted material.
@chrisnewman8353

@@sethmartin1512 I don't think they would because it would also need a stepper motor replacement as well as the board, too many variables remember they contract out to manufacture the modules, it is not done inhouse. Good luck, there is a group of people working on repairing the modules, we need to make a replacement board as sometimes this is damaged as well. We need a solution for after the warranty runs out.

Best dis/reassembly video out there...very well done and thorough. Thanks! Just curious why you did not use the tool Snapmaker includes to cinch that metal strip up tight. I think you would save a lot of time and hassle by using it. Also, what ended up being the actual problem that made it so stiff? A seized-up stepper motor??
@sethmartin1512
@sethmartin1512 3 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the nice comment! We didn't use it because we didn't know what it was for. Learned because of the community on this video, so we intend to make a supplement. It actually ended up being the control board. Something let the magic smoke out of one of the ICs.
@Fishbone4u
@Fishbone4u 3 жыл бұрын
@@sethmartin1512 I am praying that I never see that magic smoke! Also..very cool for both of your professions. I have always loved aircraft or anything that flies my whole life. I originally started out in aeronautical engineering, similar to your wife, but the math classes killed me! I switched to architecture instead. Look me up on the FB groups and friend me if you want. "Chris Fish" Also, I would CC Snapmaker on Twitter and Instagram. I bet they will repost and highlight this great video.

@@sethmartin1512 just curious...why would the linear module be so stiff for an electronics failure? Wouldn't it require something mechanically to be wrong to be that tough to move? Both the damaged and working ones you showed were unpowered yet one worked/moved easily and the other did not. Can you help me understand?? Thanks!

I suspect that you have a bound or frozen bearing inside of the motor itself or the end cap bearing.

When you have the linear assembly disassembled, can you change out the stepper motor driver (to essentially upgrade it to the new modules)?
@sethmartin1512
@sethmartin1512 3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but I'd have to get my hands on the new hardware to be sure.
@jebradleymd
@jebradleymd 3 жыл бұрын
It would definitely be nice if you could. And, it would be significantly less costly than getting the newer linear modules. It wouldn't be too much more to just buy an "F" model.

@@sethmartin1512 I have he new modules arriving this week. First thing I will do is to have a look at the new PCB and see how hard it might be to make a retrofit for the old modules.
