I don't find noise to be an issue on older CCD cameras anymore now Lightroom has its ridiculously good AI denoiser, as long as I shoot in RAW. It can even get eerily clean while staying sharp, which is a bit too much, but somewhere between 30 and 40 seems to be the sweet spot. Gives older cameras a bit more flexibility than having to permanently stick to base ISO

My elder daughter passed hers on to her little girl (7) recently, and she has been having fun with it. I have just moved into MFT, so I am very camera focussed just now, and I had been thinking that the Nikon is a great camera for your kind of usage, which is similar to hers. I think the threaded ring is a great idea -- in fact, I think that any camera with a range of controls (shooting mode, exposure commpensation etc and RAW) should have a filter ring as a matter of course. My first couple of digital cameras had them and I had some Nikon 1s which, of course, had them on the interchangeable lenses. I bought my first Nikon 1 after my DSLR went down while I was on an overseas holiday, so I wasn't rushing into lens purchases when I got home, and made do with a screw on 2x converter for a couple of months, giving me the standard 28-80 (equiv) range, plus an extension up to 160 mm, and got quite acceptable photos. I'll try to get my granddaughter out on a photography day soon.

Yep. I have a G9 and it does very well in daylight. The photos are dreamy. Not sure why, I simply smile at the results. Any G series camera will serve you well. Any compact of this class will. I was looking for a small camera for daily use, but not had enough money. My friend, who is a pro photographer, recommended me to look for this camera. In my region it costs around $70-100 in good condition, but even this was too expensive for me to buy it. And then he sends me a link to this camera but only $20 because lens wasn't working. I brought it and got it just few hours ago from post. It looks much smaller than i thought (before it i owned only d3000), yesterday i'll meet my friend to give him this camera for repair, because he knows how to fix it. Looking forward to get more shots of my city and nature of my country.

I have the P7100. Same body, sensor & lens as the P7000 but with a tilt display, faster buffer & shooting times, and an extra control dial. Unfortunately the autofocus is about the same as the P7000. It's iffy even for video, and will eventually lose focus on a static subject. Bare in mind there are some things you should be aware of with both the P7000 & P7100. The lens covers can start to stick snd won't open entirely, and the LCD display can develop dead lines of pixels from heat (but eventually they will recover). As with any nikon camera I've ever used, they can freeze at any moment so keep that in mind and reinsert the battery to restore normal operation.
@snappiness Жыл бұрын
Interesting issues that can happen - mine already does have a semi-sticky lens cover (not all the time). The tilt screen on the 7100 is a worthy upgrade! That would be useful.

@@snappiness My P7100 thankfully does not have a sticky Lens cover, although I did get it hardly used with the original box. It did develop dead pixels on the LCD display but that happened when I was in 90°+ desert heat, and as I learned it did eventually fully recover over the span of a couple weeks when I returned home in the PNW. The tilt display is an awesome feature. You can shoot at waist level or over your head to get the composition you want.

Thanks for the video. I've been using the P7000 on overseas vacations for the last 13 years. I like taking pictures of my wife, and she taking pictures of me at various places around the world, And I like taking pictures of friends at dinners at night. The P7000 is superior by far to my Nikon A900 and Sony RX100 MkIV because unlike them, it has a decent internal flash - essential for fill-flash when my wife or I are back-lit, or at night. I did buy a sceond P7000, but unfortunately, the internal battery on both cameras died, and repair cost was quoted at A$175 (US$114) each. So I went and bought a P7800 for that amount. But I still use the cameras, despite the nuisance of having to enter the date and settings whenever I charge the battery. Despite having used the P7000 for so long, until I saw your video, I was unaware that it had an internal ND filter! Not sure how that escaped my attention, but thanks for letting me know. Regards.

Hi there, I'm a photographer working in South Korea. I’m currently using a Nikon P7100 and a Canon G10, both of which I’m really drawn to because they're As I mentioned earlier, I'm a commercial photographer, and I’d like to use these cameras for my commercial work. Recently, I tried doing a flash sync test because I wanted to use studio flashes with Godox triggers (X2T, X3) and a couple of universal triggers. Surprisingly, the G10 worked just fine, but the P7100 just wouldn’t sync I thought my P7100 might be faulty, so I bought another one of the same model. Now I have two P7100s, but strangely, the new one works perfectly fine with the flash sync! So, I’m really curious-when you use external triggers or speedlights, do you have any issues with the sync not working, like I did? (Oh, and by the way, I can use optical sync with the built-in flash, but I really don’t want to do that. I only want to rely on triggers for my studio lighting setup.) I’m not trying to push too hard to test something that might not be relevant if you don’t normally use triggers or speedlights. I’m just asking out of curiosity because, with it being such an old model and not widely used, I couldn’t find much information about it. I even contacted the Nikon service center in Korea, but they didn’t really have a helpful response and were quite skeptical about the triggers working with the P7100. Thanks so much for reading this, and I really appreciate any insight you might have! I hope only good things come your way, and thanks again for the wonderful conversations and advice!

"I never leave home without this camera" - neither do I. I've been biking/hiking with the P7000 since the camera was released in 2010. I always shoot RAW and edit in ON1 Photo Raw, which cleans up the image nicely with NoNoise AI. I recently bought a second P7000 from a photographer friend for $50, which I "loaned" to my daughter for a hiking trip in the Canadian Rockies. She loves the colours, and the zoom gives her extended range over her iPhone. The macro setting is great for closeup work.

@snappiness do you prefer this to the Canon PowerShot G12? I've been eyeing the G12 but am curious on your take.

I like these as a budget option for pocket camera or street photos. But, seems a little pricey for the category? A quick check showed prices close to $200. Quite a few other comparable options in different brands closer to $100

That's a good thing to look out for then, I'm not up-to-date with the prices on all the competitors from the era.

It was a high end piece of kit and still is. The build is excellent and the lens and colours are superb. Loads of features, raw images and a hot shoe. I think the viewfinder is useful. It also ties in with the camera's classic feel and look. There were packed sensors in 2010. Nikon decided to give it a modest pixel count and to break from the absurd pixel chasing which was about at the time..
