But I 100% agree with lack of innovation in all directions, slow updates, and autofocus problems. Not that Sony makes bad products or their colours and whatnot are "soulless". If a camera inspires you, it inspires you to pick it up and take pictures. I switched from Fujifilm to Nikon almost a full year ago and it was a bittersweet moment. I got into Fujifilm during the crazy year of 2020 and sparked my love for photography again with the old school retro dials and lens selections. Eventually I added more to my set, upgraded camera bodies over the years, and found channels like yours that helped me become a better photographer with your gear reviews, setting recommendations, and overall the enjoyment of your videos. One of the first ones I followed might I add since then lol Unfortunately the long going autofocus issues got to me and the low light capabilities were limited. When Nikon intro’d the ZF, I made the switch and never looked back. It just tacks on all the capabilities I need and more. I was never a “oh full sensor is better than APC-S sensors” person but the ZF’s fullframe sensor does help with lowlight capabilities. It was bittersweet because Fujifilm got me back into photography and help me get things going at a rough time in my life and the world in general. The change was necessary and the ZF does everything for me as a hobbyist. No matter what brand you use moving forward, I will still continue to follow your channel and look forward to your new content with your new gear.

My history is a little bit the same. Photography come back was started by changing old APS-C by Samsung to Fuji. But, after one year, when I planned to change my camera to something better... I've found that newest Fuji cameras have many annoying problem. So, probably, the next camera, for Voightlander lenses, and "even further return to photography, to my beginnings with analog" would based on Nikon, which was my first digital DSLR which I suddenly had to sell.

Higher prices, inferior build quality of the most recent Fuji cameras, particularly the XT-5 & autofocus issues across multiple camera platforms, etc. are major obstacles for Fuji in retaining their customer base. At the end of the day, every photographer has to decide on a system that will best meet their needs whether professionally or on a personal level. Fuji created quite a bit of excitement in the industry when introducing their mirrorless camera offerings years ago, The question remains as to how Fuji can re-capture the imagination of photographers with future camera releases & quality innovations that draw photographers to their brand.

For me, this change is important because literally the day before you announced that you were giving up on Fuji, I told a photographer friend the same thing. Specifically, that there is something wrong with Fuji cameras, availability issues, various problems with new cameras, such as the X-H2, X-T5, X-S20, noticeable drop in quality, and this AF annoyance. My X-S10 will remain, with 8mm and 35mm, as a camera for family photos called "choose the film simulation on our photo together", but when it comes to going to manual lenses, which I have always wanted to try, I will try a different system. I switched from Fuji to Canon originally. I was using a canon R5. I wanted to use a full frame camera. But I got disgusted with Cannon‘s lack of support for third-party’s lenses. So about a year ago, I switched to Sony and couldn’t be happier. The last time I checked, they support the greatest number of lenses from both Sony and third parties (around 300). So now I’m able to buy a lot more lenses and although they’re not quite as sharp as the high-end ones, they are still really good and I can improve things in post. I’ve been in photography for many decades, and my biggest lesson learned is to focus on the camera manufacturer that support the lenses you really want.

Best of luck with your transition, Roman. At the beginning of 2024 I sold my XT5 and XH2 along with six different lenses and made the jump to Sony. I completely get where you’re coming from regarding relying on Fujifilm color science and film simulations with editing. I found myself bored with the look and wanting just the flat RAW file. My A7R5 is literally the same size as my XH2, so size is not really that different. Just slightly bigger lenses. The auto focus is absolute nails on the Sony, and I love how freely you can customize the buttons and dials. The camera just gets out of the way and allows me to be creative. Like you, I kept my X100V for family stuff. Going forward, Fujifilm needs to focus on innovation and improving their reliability. I’ve literally dropped my Sony on the concrete and it was fine, but had my XH2 brick on me in the middle of the shoot for no reason at all. Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you can produce with your new set up. Cheers!

@@TonyNomadic I went the opposite direction. I switched to the R5 from FujiXT2. I wanted to upgrade to XH and stay with Fuji , mainly for the weight advantage. But when I carefully compared weight of equivalent zoom combinations, to my disappointment, the zooms that Fuji sys are needed to take advantage of their 40 MP sensor are large and heavy because they are 2.8. Heavier in some cases than full frame canon L f4, like the 14-35, 24-105 and 70-200. I don’t need 2.8 for landscape. It’s like Fuji was forcing me to use primes or go much heavier than any crop sensor system should be. They negated most of the weight advantage. Their refusal to improve their zoom offerings drove me away.

@@morespinach9832 whatever definition of professional we use - one thing screams professional - and thats reliability. yes the x-h2 xh2s and gfx cameras are absolutely for professionals, I use the x-h2 for wildlife. But when you can't rely on them for AF because fuji broke it in a firmware update... that doesn't scream professional tool to me. I know from experience there was a moment I had with some deer that I encountered. I was so excited about the photos I took - only to get home and see that 90%+ were out of focus - even though on camera the square was green, it had clearly not picked up focus. The AF wasn't broken in a "you just need to tweak your settings" way - it just didn't work most of the time, constantly hunting and giving false positives. I've since downgraded my firmware to a much earlier version before all the AI stuff, and won't be updating until I absolutely have to. A professional tool requires professional support from the manufacturer, that's part of why you pay the premium prices. They shouldn't have shipped the broken firmware in the first place, and even after they did - their communication with their pro users should have been faster, and they should have issued a fix much faster than they did.

2 years ago I bought my first camera, which is a used A7II, and with that body I've bought, sold, and traded a couple of lenses, and at the beginning of the year I made a commitment to myself that I would restrain myself from buying anymore lenses, sold all my other lenses and I've basically only shoot with the 35mm GM lens, and it was the most fun time I had shooting with a camera, and a while ago I realized if I really had fun with this one body, one lens setup, the X100 series cameras would probably be a perfect choice for me, so I've basically sold my sony system and bought an X100V. A very honest and open rationale for moving on from Fujifilm. I applaud your honesty. As a Fujifilm user, I'll still want to get you knowledge, insights and perspective, irrespective of the camera you are using, good luck in your next steps.

I'm a hobbyist myself. I prefer shooting with Fuji because, like you, I crutch HARD on fujis colors. It's really satisfying to nail the shot in camera, and it's one of the reasons why I love this system. They do, however, have a nice range of cheap, fast 3rd party primes which kind of cover my needs creatively, and it's enough for me personally when I get bored. I even own the GFX 50r exclusively to adapt old manual glass and that has a completely different shooting experience that I absolutely adore. I totally get how this system can get frustrating from a professional standpoint though, but between the systems I've actually tried (basically all the major brands except Nikon) nothing else quite allows me to almost perfectly capture what I want in camera with minimal to no editing.

Thank you for your honesty and openness. I look forward to continuing to follow your journey. I am a Fuji shooter and have recently bought the Leica Q3 43 to develop my photography further.

No matter what gear you use, I enjoy watching your video's and I admire the pictures you show in your video's I started with photography in 2008 and thanks to you I learned about layering, using colors and framing my photo's in an other way than I did for all those years. Thanks for that Roman

Too funny, I have started with Fuji like you. 3 years ago I switched to Sony and a year later I added a Leica M11. Still, I’m using an x100vi for fun. Enjoy your journey.

I only have one camera and it's an XT200. Being broke has convinced me that gear isn't more important than creativity. I'm looking forward to your future work.

I came for Fujifilm but stayed for the photos. Don't care what camera brand or gear you use. You have a distinct style of photography and thats what keeps me glued to this channel and your content. Keep being honest Roman !

Do what you need to do, it's your business, no one else's. I love your videos and their content and if Sony and Leica helps you make better and more enjoyable content then bring them on.

Totally understand your frustration. I was a loyal Fujifilm user for 15 years, but I recently sold most of my gear. While I still keep my X-E4 with a Voigtländer Ultron as a pocket camera, I briefly owned a Leica Q3 before switching to an M11 with a 35mm Summilux-M and a 28mm Ultron. Fujifilm's recent approach has been disappointing. They seem more focused on releasing minor firmware updates than addressing the needs of their existing user base. Their cameras have been declining in quality, which may have pushed me towards Sony or Nikon. I only stuck with Leica due to my existing investment.

I found your channel when I switched systems to Fuji (GH5 to XH2S), I followed you because I liked your photography and you talked about process, and I stayed because you talked about process with others. Looking forward to following your journey from here!

Was a Fujifilm ambassador for six years, and still adore many of their products, but largely returned to Nikon a few years ago, not because the AF is better (although it is...dramatically so with my Z9/Z8/Zf), but because the shooting envelope at the margins is just significantly improved with full frame. Plus, the Zf with its unique AF-point sensor stabilization and subject recognition using manual focus lenses is just next level. Also own one of the Leica Q series cameras and use that in concert with my Nikons - never been happier than with this combination.

Roman, I appreciate your videos because they are honest, informative and genuinely useful. Although I use Fujifilm I will keep watching because there is value in what you share that goes beyond camera systems. Learning a new system can be rejuvenating and inspiring. Good on you for making a change that is right for you. I look forward to your future videos.

Like others have said, I found you searching for Fuji reviews and got my fist digital camera - an X-T5 - in part based on your reviews. Along the way, I've grown to appreciate your style. Since I'm not planning to jump ship, Ihope you will still do walkabouts and stuff about composition and editing! That way, people can find you from the gear searches but stay for the actual art of your photography.

Don't worry mate! It's you who is making the nice footage and photos. And yes it is because of you I start to use an old X-T1 and i love it as well. This besides my Lumix S5 and my Sony A7. They all have their own field of use which is also influenced by my own mood. So it is good to change or use different gears and it will keep you inspired and pull the best out of you. Enjoy it and I'll keep on follow you no matter what you use.

I appreciate your honesty and I totally respect your decision. I’m a Canon user and I’ve been following you for your work and not for the gears you are using. I also agree that switching platform can be beneficial for your growth as a photographer and as well for your business.

I’ll still watch your channel, Roman. You are a photographer and it doesn’t matter what equipment you use. I’m a hobbyist and shoot Fuji. Changing systems for me would be too costly and I’m not sure I even want to. This is a good reminder to be a photographer first and let the gear take a back seat.

You do you my guy, I subscribe to the channel awhile back because of your style of photography and knowledge of it. No need to explain why moving from one ecosystem to another I think it's a great idea. Sometimes you need a switch to challenge yourself again. Keep up the good work.

YES!!! This video truly speaks the truth for how one does things and why they change without the fuzzy dramatic most KZbinrs say in their videos as sell outs. I truly appreciate your videos and did find you because of fujifilm, but stayed because I like your style in photos and videos. The fact that you said the only brand you care about is yours....AMEN BROTHER! I wish more videos in KZbin could be like these instead of clickbait and that they could stop trying to get us in Gear acquisition syndrome. It truly annoys me when a channel went from doing the things they like to become a sells person for brands. Keep up the great work and can't wait for ur next video!

I too have switched from Fujifilm after using them since 2014. I was using a GFX 50R and an XT3. I sold the 50R and was able to afford a Panasonic S5IIX and the Panasonic 50mm 1.4. I'm stunned at how much better a camera it is than any of the Fujis in almost every way. It's better made and makes the Fujis feel like toys in comparison. The built in LUT feature makes the Fujifilm simulations obsolete. AF is far superior. The only thing that kept me using Fujifilm oddly enough was the manual dials on the top of the XT3 for video. It was so convenient to lock in the settings without going through menus. Now, Fujifilm has all but done away with the dials and opted for the same PSAM dial as everyone else. With inferior lenses and cheaper build quality, there's nothing left to differentiate them from everyone else. They should have went full frame with a fully manual camera and I do believe one day they will. As for now I'm happy with the switch I made.

I’ve recently switched from Fuji to Leica; it's a painful, time-consuming and expensive process, but so worth the effort eventually, but takes a few months to feel comfortable with the switch and confident I made the right decision… C.
