Beyer makes the snare sound like a snare. 57 makes everything sound like a 57.

This is one hell of a snare sound, good job on tuning mate! Regarding the mics, it doesn't matter that much, they will be EQed to oblivion in a modern mix. Good thing about A7X is that it is supercardioid, which reject hihat bleed much better than SM57 for example.

For me it's the m201! It's way clearer and detailed than its competitors! And really nice comparison by the way!

@@martindrumm8938 I agree - though for me it would depend on primarily bleed from other drums, so I use the Sm57

I really enjoyed the accuracy with which you did this test! Nearly every stroke is similar played. Thanks for sharing this. I can not decide between the SM57´s classic sound and the Beyer M201 with its detail...the SE is a bit to harsh in my ears/headphones. Would be very interesting to hear it again with other Snare/Tunings.

Im hearing this thru a iPhone 14 at 2am 😂 I think the beyer sounds the best but the sm57 just has that sound🔥🔥the greatest snare mic of all time for a reason

M201 grabs the dynamics best and has good tone. 57s tone is rougher and the v7x sounds nice but the dynamics aren't as tight.

I can tell a major difference even with my iPad speakers. The m201 was clearly more natural and detailed than the 57. The v7x was very similar, and because it should have more rejection, I’d wonder if maybe the V7x would get a better end result when it comes down to the mix. They both I think are more flat mics than the 57, which is curvy and unnatural, and so it starts a mixing process with those curves. So I wouldn’t necessarily say one mic is better than the other. Rather, which one should I use today?

the M201 sounds very nice and uncolored, but for almost 3x the price of the 57, I don't know if it's worth it, I'll EQ it anyway
