As a struggling addict this is crushing for me because I've always seen him as an inspiration that if he could kick H that I could too. But seeing that it lasted his whole life but he just kept it hidden hurts because he was such a talented and successful man.

Hope you are doing well in your fight. He was in so much pain (physical and mental). It's not surprising he turned to whatever he could find to get some relief. Considering the race situation and the state of healthcare throughout his lifetime, there weren't many options available to him as far as treatments and care for all of his ailments were concerned. It wasn't that he needed superhuman strength to kick. Nowadays people choose to self medicate. I don't think he had a choice.

@@lisalisa4182 With all humility, that's not the attitude my friend. The only excuses that are valid to continue an addiction that you want to get rid of are the ones that you yourself validate. Anyone and everyone has the ability to stop. They just need to find the right reason. Peace and love, brothers.

@@c.l.368 Of course everyone has the ability to stop an addiction. But some find their reasons for being addicted to be more powerful than their reasons to quit. Until they are able to defeat that mindset, they struggle.

@@lisalisa4182 "I don't think he had a choice." Theres always a choice. Thinking like this is the very thing that gets you hooked for life.

@@c.l.368 I was speaking about receiving treatment for his physical and mental problems (drug addiction being one) at that time in history. Self medicating was the only choice he saw at that time. Becoming an addict was not his choice, I'm sure.

He died just like Jerry Garcia, using coke and heroin way past the age when he needed to stop. He became a drug caricature of his earlier self.

"From 1975 to early 1980 I didn't pick up my horn," Davis says. "Mostly during those four or five years . . . I just took a lot of cocaine (about $500 a day at one point) . . ." He also had sex with "all the women I could get into my house. I was also addicted to pills, like Percodan and Seconal (Oxycodone and Benzodiazepam like xanax), and I was drinking a lot . . . mostly I snorted coke, but sometimes I would inject coke and heroin into my leg; it's called a speedball and it was what killed John Belushi."

More I read up on Miles the more it seems like he was a screwball, which we all can be sometimes. Cocaine really changed his life for worst. There has to be a good side to him though outside if his music.

When people like musicians such as Miles there is no time for love. They sign contracts. So Miles has worked under hard pressure for a lot of money no wonder he was addicted on drugs.Another example is Elvis Presly.
