Sneaking into Invergarry Castle. This used to be a house of the Macdonalds. The ship that we find is called Eala Bhan, which is Gaelic for White Swan. This was one of my favorite videos. Very fun to explore. #scotland #castle #travel #explore #travelvlog #history #ilovescotland #nature #water #ship #boat #tree #forest #iamsecond #faith

Does the term Jackobite come from trying to substitute the English king with a different one, like Jacob substituted Esau and got his blessing?

@@ozarksbrotherjerry4297 Jacobite comes from the Latin Jacobus meaning James. Jacobites are supporters of James.

A surprisingly accurate and entertaining way to familiarize yourself with the basic history of the Jackobite Rebellion between the English and the Scots is the show "Outlander". People who know the show are probably saying "what is this guy smoking" but beside the fictionalized storyline of time-traveling lovers spanning eons by walking through solid stone, the historical elements are again, surprisingly accurate!

The religious turmoil of that time, saw the destruction of any building or property owned by Catholics, Scotland had some of the best abbey's and churches anywhere in Europe. Now only ruins. The country went through a very traumatic time. Few other countries suffered worse than Scotland from the so called "Reformation", so sad they could destroy their heritage in the name of hate.

When did the Catholics get a hold in Scotland?
@Redfour5
@Redfour5 15 күн бұрын
@@ozarksbrotherjerry4297 Remember, All of the UK was originally Catholic. They didn't "get hold" the Catholics held onto the past... And they still don't get along with "England" when you come right down to it along with the Welsh and other areas and never forget the Irish but don't worry, they won't let you. So, you Yanks, Oh wait I am one. The "United Kingdom" isn't quite as United as it might look from the outside, but in the whole I think they all have their issues, but more like family squabbling. They know they live on the same island and within the context of the larger world it's sort of like the old Ben Franklin statement although different context. Ole Ben said, "Gentlemen, we either all hang together or we will surely hang separately..." So, apply that to the UK and its internal divisions is my take. OH and how is that Brexit thing workin out there you guys? It was Henry the VIII who broke off from the Catholics. Why? and to over simplify, The Pope wouldn't let him get a divorce and marry another one... But, further, think about how rich the Catholic Church was and all the things you could take if you broke off with them. I'm sure Henry the VIII did... And considering the fluid nature of Catholicism, I"m surprised the Pope didn't give a "dispensation" of some sort. From a simple risk management standpoint, the total destruction of everything the church owned in the UK (present area) sure seemed like a bad outcome not warranting the outcome from the Pope's perspective. So, I'm sure there was a lot more to it and I know at some point in my long life I've read it...but eventually it leaks out of your head. So from a "yanks" perspective, and reminding you of the over simplification, that appears to be what happened. And I had an ex wife who grew up Catholic but NEVER mentioned it until she said her mom was leaving the Church to become Anglican because of the "liberalization" of the Catholic Church. Full circle I guess from a personal standpoint. I was born a birthright Hicksite Quaker but never could get that turning the cheek thing down so, am nothing at the moment. Oh what a tangled web we weave as humans... I find it quite interesting like watching ants in an antpile wondering what the hell motivates them. I love history and old Castles and things like that. Even the boat...

@@Redfour5 I concur with everything you said. Scotland is an interest to me as my maternal line comes from there. My line's home castle is Calcreuch. I was raised and remained a baptist for 50 years. I'm now messianic as I don't see the law done away with. Took me a while to figure that out. Another major interest to me is how some of the tribes of Israel migrated over to Scotland, the UK and Europe in general. I have the "Annals of Tegernach & Inisfallen" authoried by Geoffrey Keating, born 1569. He endeavored to gather as much history, of the Isles, as possible since Rome had destroyed so much. He documented the arrival of, at least portions, of Judah and Manasseh. Biblically, the Isles could be rich in history. Jeremiah, in Jer 1:10, was instructed to uproot kingdoms and plant them. No one ever asks what it is he planted. I don't believe the bible tells us what he planted. He planted in Ireland when he took Zedekiah's daughter Teatefi in 583BC. She marries a prince there and Jeremiah formed a school there teaching torah. Another potentially world changing view of history is the account of Tama, whom Judah impregnated. I cover that in a youtube kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJStdIaBr519qpo . Yes, the citizens of the UK better stick together. Western governments now have contempt for those they, allegedly, rule. Thanks for the comeback.

Actually Hollywood has made Many movies about the Jacobite rebellion, one notable one with Liam Nesson playing the Title Tole of a real person on the Scottish side. The name is Rob Roy, loosely based on the life of Rob Roy MacGregor 1995 film, very good. Has other notable actors in the cast.

The 1745 Jacobite Rebellion was the second one involving Bonnie Prince Charlie, it was preceded by the first Jacobite Rebellion in 1715 which involved his father James Edward Stuart. Together they were derogatorily known as Old Pretender and Young Pretender. They're very interested events.
