That was a terrific move by the guy in the black. I do think it was made possible not just because the net player on the other side moved to the middle too soon, but that net player was also standing too close to the net. The closer you are to the net, the more open the line is. I get criticized a lot for standing more in the middle of the box in doubles when I am at the net. But the truth is you have more time - via the added distance - to cover shots down the line when you do stand back. Plus, if you stand a bit further back from the net it's MUCH easier to get forward momentum into your volleys. If you're on top of the net, you can't get momentum into your shots. You can basically only block them.

Smashing an overhead successfully into the opposing net player is the most rewarding thing in doubles. As Ryan is saying - I am not looking for open court, I am looking for my opponent. :D (I wanna stress that I am aiming for the feet, not the body. ;) )

If he'd been positioned closer to the T to begin with, where he should've been, he'd have only needed one or two steps (instead of sprinting) to put that ball away. Doubles intelligence is most apparent in positioning.

Could you share what software you are using to to do the play-by-play analysis? I used to use Coach’s Eye… but it appears to be discontinued

I still have coach’s eye on my device but it’s not working well anymore. Def on its last legs. Try OnForm. It’s better than coach’s eye and you can get it now in the App Store.

The returner should have come to the net (or at least at service line) after his down the line shot pass the net player.

This point was a total mess…returner gets jammed so he can’t hit a forehand and gets lucky that the net play decides to poach. The server is waaay late getting to the return and pops up a slice backhand. Guy in black sees this and goes into kill mode.

Good job with the overhead put away to be honest the server sliced the ball way too high. You can look at the video either way. Good ball recognition of a poor slice on the line.
@mikef16363 ай бұрын
Inside ground stroke-What is that. You're way over complicating things. The returner should have rushed the net but if his partner hadn't made a good job with the volley he'd left three quarters of the court open for the opposition to hit a winner. He took a chance but only just reached the volley-fortunately. The player at the net on the opposite side basically moved too early. No case of the guy in black being so smart either 🙄
