About the infinity monkeys, someone make an algorithm that put letters randomly and after some time make one paragraph of the work shakespeare. The concept is about time an combinations, you can make easier to understand the same concept, like the "space" between words its not random and that improves the overall time you need to a random algorithm make a text. But yeah, the concept of random an infinity is so interesting.

the probability that one character typed at any given point in the sequence is correct is 1/26, which means that the probability that two consecutive characters being typed are correct is 1/26^2, … 1/26^n. you really would need infinite time there’s probably frequency analyses you can do to be more precise but the probability of reproducing a specific sequence at random is literally inverse exponential with respect to the length of the sequence in base 26, so that’s why the monkey thing is dumb and clocks are better even if the monkey types 300 words per minute, or something like 1200 characters per minute, it still needs several orders of magnitude more time than that in order to complete the given task, because that’s just a linear factor and the task is always getting exponentially more difficult every time Shakespeare writes another letter, let alone another word e.g. to reproduce a 1500 word secondary school essay a random monkey needs on the order of 26^1500 random trials at typing it, which would take 26^1500 characters / 4 characters / word / 300 words / minute. That brings the 2123 digit number that 26^1500 represents down to a mere… 2120? digits. As in, 2.something times 10^(2123 - 3)… minutes. And that’s not nearly as long a text as any concatenation of the complete works of Shakespeare. Measuring in hours or days brings the factor down about an order of magnitude or two, but it’s still an incomparable amount of time to the amount of time for which any single monkey or typewriter could be engaged in this task or even conceivably exist

Jesus, I did not think I would see a martingale reference in this cast haha. For anyone interested in the actual math, this is an extension of the "abracadabra typewriter" problem, which is a standard problem in probability theory. The probability of correctly writing a Shakespeare work will indeed approach 1 as the number of letters typed approaches infinity. However, if we type one letter per second, we would most definitely need more than the lifetime of the universe to achieve this.

@samlee4053 жыл бұрын
@Sadge Cause monkeys are, by nature, not random. They're a species that live on by their own set of natural instincts. Those instincts will never (not even in an infinite amount of time) allow them to operate a typewriter or keyboard in such a way to recreate a literary work
@Mirro183 жыл бұрын
For anybody who is as confused as sneaky about infinite monkey: I simplify it a little to follow: A monkey presses any random button on a keyboard that has all English letters (26) and a spacebar. To write the Shakespeare quote "You egg" (look it up :P) you need 7 keystrokes to be correct. So to get the probability that if you press any random letter to type out that quote is (1/27)^7 = 0.000000000095599066. As you can see 0.000000000095599066 =/= 0, ergo if you try infinitely long it will happen because there is a chance that it happens even if it is low. If you do that with any kind of word you will notice that the number will get smaller and smaller for it to be possible but it will never be 0 means in an infinite amount of time, any text that ends will be written out if you just randomly press any key.

If you had a Shakespeare play that had 10,000 letters in it. So the math to lucky fall into matching all of the letters issss...... 26 to the power of 10,000 I think. I like sneaky's content, but I feel like his inability to understand monkey theorem is a symptom of a larger problem that people are unable to interact with hypotheticals. It doesn't mean a monkey lives forever. If you go on for literal ever the monkey will get the entire works of shakespeare and get the last letter or punctuation wrong an infinite number of times. The monkey will also finish the works properly. It's not about if a monkey CAN do this, it's about interacting with hypotheticals and I feel like society at large is less and less able to comprehend hypotheticals.
@windows50963 жыл бұрын
i think he just thinks the hypothetical is too unlikely even given an infinite amount of time, attention span+motor skills of a monkey is a a real barrier. even with an infinite amount of monkeys, do monkeys as a species have the capability of pressing pressing individual keys on a keyboard for even a chapter? say, each individual monkey gets his time, hypothetically all of them will either die or break the keyboard before even a chapter is written. the hypothetical clashes with the reality. Say, you had an infinite amount of immortal monkeys so each had the chance to complete a whole work of shakespear? again its rough. maybe an infinite amount of immortal monkeys all taught how to press a single key at a time on a keyboard? there is such a thing as statistical probability being so low that the event in question is deemed impoosible. thats not hypotheticals, thats just the field of statistics. the thing with hypotheticals is that they are fun if you dont think too hard about it, but at the same time, they hardly contribute to much. you seem to think society needs hypotheticals to function which is downright silly. No, we dont. As a society we understand probability and statistics which we use to inform us on what is the best choices moving forward. you can also talk about given an infnite amount of games, can tryndamere crit on every single auto in a 30 minute game? fun to think about, absolutely useless and statistically impossible anyways. we dont need silly monkey writing shakespear hypotheticals. you are being a pseudo intellectual over something that doesnt matter. a hypothetical that actually says something for example is the ship that has all of its parts replaced one by one until no original part exists. that hypothetical contributes to a discussion about the self and identity.
@CosmicDarkLord3 жыл бұрын
@@windows5096 I agree with your first 2 parts. I disagree on your final paragraph that the monkey theorum in something that does not matter. The whole point of the situation and why its being used in reference to league is about consistency. If you give team with less competency, intelligence, or what ever word you describe them as they will eventually win. Even though a monkey(CLG) is grossly incompetent for completing the task if given enough time nothing about the monkey has changed but they will accomplish something. Just because Flyquest academy or CLG win a game or 2 or even if they flopped all the way to winning a split it would not mean they are not monkey examples. The orgs have done a terrible job and it should not be ignored. Getting better should be the goal not flinging feces at a wall until something sticks. Or hoping that TL,100T,C9,TSM, and EG all implode with roster problems is not the goal. A lot of teams got free passes at the beginning of this split because the top teams decided to shoot themselves in the foot. This is leading to the discussion that many of the GMS and coaches are not qualified for their position. They have been in the scene to long to continue to get hired. Now we can start a discussion of who should be in charge of these positions. How do we quantify it? Ex pros? Do we need more assistant coaches to be able to grow them into the position. I do not have the answer but this theorem I hope will bring light to this discussion for the betterment of the whole league.
