Growing up in the 80s, I had a bunch of hidden gems that I didn't really appreciate. This game is known as Matendouji in Japan, and I remember this game in a 4-in-1 bootleg cartridge which also includes Super Spy Hunter and Sword Master. Apparently the one in the bootleg that I had has the status bars glitched in the second level. The Matendouji one has a translation patch btw. This was one of the games that Asmik published in the West during the NES era.

Whoa, this brings back memories! I remember playing this game a lot when I was a kid, but I haven’t even thought about it in over 25 years. I actually owned it. My parents were cheap as hell, so 80% of my games were less well-known games they’d get from the clearance bin for $10-20. I had some real duds like Spy vs Spy and Caveman Games. But I had a few true hidden gems like this one. Another gem I had was Shingen the Ruler, which turned out to be one of my top 3 NES games of all time (along with FF1 and Castlevania 2). Clearance bin gamers stand up!

hahahahaha spy vs spy. Now that was a complete waste of time for single player, but my two younger brothers and myself and my younger sister had a lot of fun playing 2 players vs. on that, setting booby traps etc and taunting each other when we found the knife or someone got zapped. It really was a pvp game. I remember the commercials for caveman games, they made it look really fun. Never played it. Never heard of shingen i need to look that one up now.....

I bought this game from a rental place that was going out of business, and I have loved it ever since. I totally agree that it’s a hidden, underrated gem of a game that more people need to see. @awkwardsilence44275 жыл бұрын
HG? Also, if memory serves that Scream homage you’re referring to was actually a US exclusive, as it was changed to that from the Japanese version. I think. It was either that, or an enemy design was changed. Or both. Something was changed in that stage.
